Cheers for that, just cleared up a few queries i hadWell, Prowlers from NAS Whidbey were part of the recent Alaska excercises, so they have practiced in an ECM/EW environment. To what extent, we don't know. The Raptor is a capable ELINT platform in it's own right, so certainly he knows where the Prowler/Growler is.
EW platforms are not operating out in front, so whether or not the Raptor is within range to engage them depends on the situation. But I would give the advantage to the Raptor, since he can see the Prowler/Growler, and they can't see him. He should have no problem maneuvering for an AIM-9 shot if he so chooses. Or he can just go around the threat, it depends on what his objective is.
I don't see the jamming AC putting the APG-77 out of business, but it could cause problems for the AIM-120. I really don't know how effective the HOJ modes are.
It also seems a little silly talking about Raptors going up against Growlers and Super Hornets, since it will never really happen. Those Prowlers/Growlers are there to jam communications and search radars in support of the strike mission- they are not up there to engage opposing AC, and they are held well back from the battlespace. If they are threatened, they go the other way.![]()
