    5th gen fighter

Other than the PAK-FA, J-20, F-22, and F-35, what do you think about the other 5th generation fighters in development:

    AMCA -India
    Mitsubishi ATD-X - Japan
    Mikoyan LMFS - Russia
    Sukhoi/HAL FGFA - Russia/Inida
    Korea Aerospace Industries/Indonesian Aerospace KAI KF-X -S. Korea/Indonesia

I don't know much about them and haven't found a lot of information on them either.
Can people please post some information about them. It would help a lot.

It is a difficult decision to make since so little information is known about any of these new fighters under development. What is their mission? What are their RCS, ordnance load, range, etc.? Few countries are as open as the USAF in publishing information about their 4.5 or 5.0 generation fighter/fighter-bombers.

    Probably the best information I have come across is the Indian Air Force's evaluation of the top fighters, strengths and weakness. It is dogfight -India's Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft Decision" This evaluation gives a lot of commentary and I can not vouch for its accuracy. It supposed to be from the perspective of what is best for the Indian AF by an American think tank. Still it provides a good look at the topic and is interest. URL;

Although Russia and China have flying prototypes the race to be the second country with operational 5th gen fighters is far from over. Although lacking Russia and China's aerospace traditions South Korea and Japan have far better technology access, precision machining metallurgy and chemistry.

And the access to pay Lockheed Martin for consulting on design, integration and testing.

Though at this point, it will take Japan and South Korea years more to even field a prototype (the Japanese have at best a scale model weighing at 8 tons, and South Korea is still trying to decide what it wants in the KF-X program, IIRC).

Thanks, you all answered a lot of my questions. The link that avon1944 provided was especially helpful.
And does anyone know of any more projects for 5th gen. fighters around the World?

    AMCA and FGFA

    1. The AMCA is still on the drawing boards - there are some wind tunnel models available, but not much more is know about it. The first prototype is supposed to be ready around 2016 and first flight around 2017. But given India's records in development, expect first flight to be around 2020.

    2. The FGFA is a 2 seater version of the PAK-FA/ T-50. The differences between the two would be - an Indian mission computer, probably an India made AESA radar (if it is ready by then), Indian EW suite (Mayawi Ver. 2 or 3) and more Indianized cockpit arrangement/ display). The two seater arrangement includes a pilot and a weapons officer (all Indian twin-engine planes are to be two-seaters). The FGFA will also carry some western/ western-based (Israeli) avionics and equipment. FGFA may also have modifications made to carry western weapons and armament, which will give it more variety than the Ru-AF PAK-FA. The design of the FGFA will start some time after 2015 and prototypes are supposed to be ready around 2018. The first FGFA is supposed to be delivered to IAF by 2025.

According to rumor both Russia and China are working on a single engine Fifth gen fighter, aka F-35 like. The Russian initiative is headed by Mig.

The Mikoyan LMFS looks kind of like a F-35. I know it's an artist's rendering, but the finished product could end up looking something like that. And the link isn't from the best source either.

I'm not sure I could call a myspace blog "a source" with a straight face.

i heard isreali are going 2 get raptors
    s it true

Mod: You need to expand upon your responses. "Drive by" one liners are not adding much value to this discussion. If you are going to proclaim info, then it also needs to be wrapped on some form of citation.

eg if its your neighbour or a friend it has next to zero value, if its from a trade journal or identified reputable source, then its potential goes up.

However, be that as it may, I'd suggest that it's absolute tosh.

Of course it's not true. A force of 2 fighters isn't going to do any good whatsoever, which means such a request has other motives. The only thing 2 is good for is disassembly and reverse engineering, which is precisely why the Raptor is NOT for sale.

AFAIK, Raptors are not for sale, export or technology sharing in any form, as specified by the US congress. There's a law against it. So Israel, Canada, UK, Australia, Japan - not a single US ally, no matter how close is going to get a raptor till the law changes or the raptor becomes obsolete.

F-35, perhaps. F-22, no. There was hearsay about F-22 exports to Israel years ago, but that's all it was- hearsay.
