Does anyone have crash statistics for the Blackhawk, broken down by year and incidents/accidents per unit flight hour? I was unable to locate one. I do remember its bad reputation in the years following its introduction in the late 1970's, but IIRC the inevitable bugs and operational issues have been mostly ironed out; the accident rate is no worse than the UH-1. But I have no numbers to back that up and may be mistaken.
The F-16 had a terrible accident rate when it became operational, earning it the nickname "lawn dart" (much hated by F-16 drivers) and the mantra "One a Day in Tampa Bay", reflecting the RTU being done at MacDill AFB in Tampa. New systems almost always have troubles initially.
