    Pak-fa lerx?

Forgive me if the question I ask is stupid, but what are the movable LERX of the PAK-FA for? How do they help aircraft performance? I am not knowledgeable on aviation, so all this is foreign to me.

In simple terms, if it moves it's a control surface. Control surfaces are used to adjust the flight attitude and trim. They can also help to induce drag when landing and keep the nose down for improved forward visibility.

It's not the first time Sukhoi has used that configuration to increase the pitch rate and make the jet more controllable at high alphas, just the first time they have coupled it directly to the wing.
