Not sure about J-10's cockpit, but all planes have their landing gear up for the duration of a first/test flight, in case of emergency landings or landing gear failure.

For any of you who can read Chinese, this article provides more information on the J-20 and makes some good comparisons with jets like the F-22.

    J20??F35?ô?_?_

J-10 cockpit doesn't look like that and J-20 wouldn't have its landing gears out at that altitude.
There were other planes accompanying the J-20 yesterday, I heard there were some jet trainers as well? So the cockpit that you see may not be the J-10's.

That's why during the test flight yesterday the J-20 did not climb too high when circling around the airfield, definately not as high as that picture indicates. It has to keep the gear down and remain close to the airport.

Also, from the looks of the ground in that picture it couldn't be anywhere near the 132 airfield (you can check google earth if you want), so it can't be a photo taken from yesterday's flight.

To my mind, that's a very large airframe for a pure AS fighter; I stick with my original hypothesis that this is more of a JSF-type airframe, rather than an "F-22 killer". The bombay SHOULD be situated just behind the front landing gear, in between the two intake trunks. The exhaust nozzles look very small compared to the size of the aircraft, unless these are interim engines being used purely for test purposes; the size of the intakes indicate a larger (i.e.: more mass airflow) engine could be installed without too much trouble.

Maybe the doors were photoshoped out. Is it possible that they built this early prototype without the bomb bays?

The size of the nozzles on the engine are adjustable. They are contracted (to create more thrust?) during flight.

It could be like the XB-70A where the bombays weren't even installed since, technically, the first two airframes were simply POC airframes, and were never intended to be operational (though the original blueprints showed the bombay in between the intake trunks, just in front of the J-93's).

OMG! That would be so funny if that were true! Stranger things have happened . . . . .
