I wouldn't call it independently developed fighter... Much like the Lavi... actually, more joint projects than the Lavi.
Anyhow, great looking bird!
How does this compare with, say, F-16 block 50?
by the way, shouldn't the underside of the fighter be painted blue? and opposite for on top? for camouflage purposes? or is that no longer needed?

It's f-16's copy. but it is better than f-16 block50, and it costs 100 million us dallors.
The pic is F-16.

The F-2 is not independently developed, its the F-16 licensed to Mitsubishi.

I have always heard that the F-2 was a POS, but could have been misinformed LOL
I know there were severe problems relating to the engineering side of the beast.

i wouldnt call it a pos/ it had some teething problems/radar-supposedly worked out,its a enlarged f16 25%more wing and tail area mitibishi electronically scanned phased array radar had 76 built by 2008 90 something was on order down from 123,theyre kinda secretive about it not much info, janes also says their f15"s are getting radar upgrades.i bet it will hold its own in a furball.

Bite`, I didn`t know they went with a larger wing, thanks for the info. I think it would have been easier to just produce a carbon copy.
The problems I heard of were around aerodynamics issues. They got solved though.

The control surfaces are a little different, but I'm pretty sure the wing is otherwise the same. It certainly looks the same (again, aside from the trailing edge).

not trying to argue but if somebody knows how to post a link wiki shows a block 40/50 f16 overlaid on a f2,not a major amount but quite a bit of difference.it says allot more composites are used in a f2.also the nose is larger for the phased array radar added.have a good day.

I am in contact with an aerodynamicist who actually worked on the program as a sub-contractor, I will message him about the wing difference.

My google-fu failed. I couldn't find a good shot of the underside of the F-16 to compare the chinings...the wing shape is mostly the same, just canted forward and starting further from the fuselage.
Nice find, that pretty much clears it up.
