Re: Another Anti- F-22 blog?
Any new plane that really pushes the state of the art comes with teething problems. The real problem is the critics have such short memories. It is so much easier to be negative, criticize others efforts than to make a positive contribution themselves.
The F-117 had its teething problems but, because there were forty-five F-117's operational before Congress found out about it, few know of its problems. The F-111 had significant problems but, once worked out, the USAF had a fine medium bomber... with effective and unique capabilities. Let us not forget the Su-27 Flanker. The Soviet Air Force had real problems with the teething of this program. Two test pilots died and four aircraft were lost during testing and pre-production. It became operational around a decade after its American counter-parts (F-14A and F-15A). Now, how many remember or really care about the problems? Those air forces who use it have a very fine fighter at a reasonable cost.
