As I've stated here on WAB before, I am a great fan of French flying machines.

What basic design of the 1970s is the US purchasing at present? (It's not French!)

No but I wonder how long they can play with such a geriatric helicopter design!

Hint: It is not a rotary winged jobbie.

a hint maybe , because F-18E/F has basic design (YF-17?) dating back to seventies, so does C-17 (YC-15 1975)?

The aircraft in question was the Fiat G222 that was given up-rated engines and a glass cockpit, but more importantly (perhaps) was given a new designation - the C-27J Spartan. The US are buying them and after seeing one put through its paces at Farnborough I don't blame them. It's a very capable piece of kit!
OK. I'll throw the next question open....

Good question Glyn. I didn't have much spare time yesterday to spend on that one, sorry.

I'll be happy to throw one out. I seem to be fixated with "the most" recently so , What is the highest flying turboprop plane?

I think Germanys Grob Egrett holds that distinction. It was built as a more affordable U-2 but I don't know how it was actually employed.
