The Blackburn Roc used by the Royal Navy in small numbers at the start of WW2 had a pretty dismal record BUT it established a most unusual 'first'. What was that?

The earlier "Shark" had floats as well, if memory serves.

Not floats. They have been around since the dawn of aviation. The Rocs performance was dismal enough without adding the weight and drag of the floats to it.

Yes you are right, they were originally planned to be fitted with floats but the first crashed.

One ROC ( L3089) was modified with a special turret to take a cine camera for air to air photography?

I don't know what a tank gunnery exercise is doing in an aviation thread, but I think I have and aviation question that some of you may know immediately and I don't know if it can be googled or not. But I have heard it first hand from an aviation historian and engineer.

What modern aircraft has been described as being able to fly "in spite of itself"?
