imo hydrogen idea is ******, it only overcomplicates things, hydrogen cars don,t run any more than regular cars do on a tank of gas, how long will it take to match number of h filling stations with gas station, and how much it will cost.
we already have number of solution, but the thing is there is no single one that works best in all applications,
deasel cars wipe the floor with hydrids in milage,(prius 45mpg diesel vw polo 75mpg) electric cars have no emmisions, but batts are expencive and not too green to make, what we need is to combine the two, you wanna better hybrid car, look at diesel lokomotives.

btw, syntetic fuel was made by germans in ww2, it becomes gel in low temp.

Hydrogen is a very simple and elegant fuel. The engineering problem is converting the volume of hydrogen to that of gasoline with regard to energy and making hydrogen come out ahead. By their nature petroleum hydrocarbons possess more dissipatable energy per volume.

Huh? Hydrogen has a very large energy capacity, the energy per volume would be much greater than petroleum gasoline products. The problem is that the fuel-cell batteries that convert the hygrogen fuel into electrical power aren't that efficient.

The problem is not the volume of hydrogen required on say a vehicle, it is the storage requirments. As hydrogen must be stored at somewhat extreme conditions.

EDIT: also hydrogen may be a simply and elegant energy storage material. But the fact that producing a given amount of energy from hydrogen fuel takes more combustion of hydrocarbons than getting the energy directly from the hydrocarbons means that the use of hydrogen fuels not only increases pollution, but does not reduce our current dependance on petroleum products, not so elegant as a fuel I would say.

Absolutely Ms Julie and very soon less oil dependancy on imports. What will the oil barron countries do when we cut the need for their oil. Do you think the dollars value will rise?
