He's right to do so, too. Literally everything the US military does, all aspects of our doctrine, emphasizes airpower, and rightly so. Airlift, the greatest reason to attain and maintain air supremacy, is absolutely key to US power, and our lift capability is getting used up and older every day.

Obviously, balance is needed, and the Army needs every cent they can get, and a lot more, even. But neglect of the air forces (all components) would be so dangerous as to be inconceivable. We need what they provide, and they provide it only so well as it's paid for.

I understand that warfare changes all the time, but it's not just dropping bombs which everyone thinks the AF does. I know why I don't want the AF to be disbanded, but like I said I'm biased and I'm glad there are people who gave great reason to keeping the USAF like airlifting, it's not too glamorous, but it's a needed asset. I'm not saying we should disband the Navy, but could we do something about the ranks?)

Okay, that's as stupid a post as has ever been written. The answer, of course, is: ANYWHERE IT'S NEEDED. Give me a ten-digit grid, and I can hit it. How's THAT?

it isn't stupid, if your mind is alert you would caught it.

Instead of hinting at your actual point, please just say it. I've been doing stupid online training all afternoon so apparently my mind isnt alert.

We have enough refuelers to fly anywhere in the world from anywhere in the world. Hell, we sent half a fighter wing from the eastern US to Saudi Arabia NON-STOP, plus all support assets and AWACS.

Er, he can not only hit it, he can put hundreds of thousands of pounds of munitions on it within a few days.

In fact, suppose I want you to do S/DEAD against your better-than-average SAM regiment, a small fleet of AD fighters, and then put 50 Mark 84s on a given spot, all in South America (say the southern Argentina area, which is far from most bases IIRC). How quickly can it be done?

Well, it depends if the crews are in crew rest already or not. If not, probably tomorrow, time-on-target around noon Central Time (US).

The Air Force should not be disbanded. He makes it sound as if counter-terrorism is the future of ALL warfare, till the very end of time. Not so.

That's the way I read it. As a former Navy airdale, I didn't much like the Air Force's way of promoting itself. (It's the only service that trains officers exclusively to be public affairs specialists for an entire career.) But folding the Air Force into the Army is a pretty drastic remedy for indiscretion. And I don't buy the argument that it would reduce administrative overhead. Sure, it would, but the only arguments that matter center on whether our forces would be better or worse after a merger. I'd rather close down the Dept of Education if saving money is the goal...
