Vietcong PSYOPS. While everyone, including AA crews are trying to realize that there are actually biplanes making an attack run and are busy pinching themselves, the pilots would have a chance of attacking.

Jokes aside, the An-2 is a decent airplane, flying for decades in all regions of USSR.
And if you find the Colts strange, I've heard a rumor that the U-2/Po-2 were used in Vietnam as well!

My company maintained one for a number of years. It hauled skydivers until the FAA got squimish and limited it to just the airshow circuit. Too bad, because it really was a good machine for hauling skydivers.

Just before you roll into Bad Aibling, Bavaria, from the A8 autobahn, there is this ramshackle barn with an An-2 Colt sitting in front.

First time I saw it, I thought I was on acid. I never did get the story, but that thang has been sitting there for YEARS, and definitely pre-dates Glasnost. I have NO IDEA just how it got there, but it is definitely a Cold War relic.

Wasn't that the plane that carried some defectors from East Germany in the 70s or 80s? I have no idea on the details, just remember reading something about it somewhere.

Too right! I really wondered what was going through Moore`s mind when he realised he was going to attack a Biplane in a helicopter with an AK` toting pal spewing fire out of the door! Crazy surreal!

I remember taking off from Murmansk airport. Just before the airplane starts ascending at full power and one loses detailed sight of the ground, one could see an An-2 wreck in the woods.

Made an impression on me as a child. I wanted to go there and check it out. But it was forbidden. Airport territory.
