Anybody in Oklahoma this weekend?
Sure its a long shot...but if you're in the area, swing by the Tinker AFB airshow. I know the Blue Angels are in town and have been practicing for the past few days, and there's a jetcar, but those are the only performances I've heard about (not really following the news about it haha).
But the real action...will be at the E-3 static display, where yours truly will be showing off our radical 1990s radar hooked up to our groovy 1970s computer systems on board our classic 1950s airframe. It dont get much cooler than that, folks. |

My commiserations!
I too have spent days at air displays and open-days being one of the unfortunate souls detailed off to stand by my aircraft and answer questions from the great unwashed. The parents were usually as dull as ditchwater and their spotty kids often knew more than I did about the technical components!

Well, here are the top 5 answers I gave today:
About 30,000 feet About 250 miles Usually about 29 people I sit in one of these seats Yeah, its a bit warm (in the flight suit), but it could be worse I stood outside at the entry/exit stairs and answered a few questions, mostly involving the heat (we had someone collapse shortly after they entered the jet, that was fun) but spent at least that much time inside, where the AC was on answering a lot more questions and explaining who sits where and what they do. All in all it was a pretty good time. Its fun showing people what goes on in the E-3, and I'd probably sign up to do this again someday...especially if it was a TDY to a nice location ![]() Only one person stumped me today, and that was a question about if our radios were upgraded to some kind of equipment standard. I found out the answer later on, so next year I'll be ready. |
