Havoc. Armored, invisible, quiet, has a radar, have more arms than Hind, have the best autopilot in the world.

AH-64D, it can use an intergrated mutli-platform enviroment to engage form behind cover with fire and Forget weapons. No other attack helo can do that. It is also armored, all weather, and equially capable in A2A and A2G. its anti-tank missiels are the bes tin the world able to defeat any armored system currently in use.

MI-28 N (Night Hunter). All weather, super maneuverable (can do loop, only MI-28, KA-50 and KA-52 can do that), armour handles 20 mm shells and 12-13 mm bullets (AH-64 can be dreaming about that), anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles, 30mm shell gun, 3.5 tonns of weapinary on the boart.
In Sweeden (I think it was in 2002) AH-64 and MI-28 had a comparing flights in which they were tested and their ability to sneack to the enemy airports, AH-64 were found quickly while MI-28 were hiding from the radars for 3 hours (not hiding, it was invisible) and by that time he was seen only for 3 times for couple seconds which did not gave ability to Sweeth to lock the missiles on the Night Hunter. He got to the airport, hit the targets and got back safely. Sweeth anounced that MI-28 is a lot better machine.
MI-28 's armour is metal-ceramic, it has 50mm bulletproof glass for the cockpit, plugs of its rotors do not require greasing.

Bull. Just about EVERY heli can do it, and there are videos of the 64 doing it, too.

, armour handles 20 mm shells and 12-13 mm bullets (AH-64 can be dreaming about that),
AH-64 has withstood such fire IN ACTUAL COMBAT. What are you talking about?

anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles, 30mm shell gun, 3.5 tonns of weapinary on the boart.
Okay. I'm not impressed. So it manages to match the AH-64, but its missiles suck by comparison (note: Not that I'd diss one if it was fired at me)

Then perhaps sweeden is on crack, or you read something wrong. A good air defense WILL find and KILL /any/ helicopter, regardless of wether it is an AH-64 or Mi-28. The Mi-28 is nothing but 'catch up' gear. It caught up, and it can (maybe) compete with the AH-64. It sure as heck isn't stealth of invisible. Sheesh

And if you think '3 seconds' is all you'll see of the Mi-28, I've got news for you. Firing the missile alone takes holding the trigger down for about 1sec. Designating the target takes 1-2sec. That's 3 sec already. Coming out of cover and stabilizing is 5-10 sec. (Are you reading this? We're up to 7 sec here). Missile flight time is close to 10sec, typically. We're up to 17 sec. A stinger just ate your precious Mi-28, and that's if the Mi-28 does everything PERFECTLY.

Now granted, a stinger gunner might not be looking that way. In fact, no one might be looking that way. Is that likely? That is anyone's guess - it's not something that you can say 'will happen' or 'will not happen'. But you will know the outcome if it does happen ... one dead Mi-28, or an aborted attack.

The Mi-28 is not magical. Get over it.

MI-28 's armour is metal-ceramic, it has 50mm bulletproof glass for the cockpit, plugs of its rotors do not require greasing.

It's not a catch up, the order on making MI-28 were given the same day as order on MI-24, but project was frozen for 4 years, now it have been unfrozen and is a lot older than AH-64. Plus it got far better characteristics than AH.

I would have to suggest that the standard of most western avionics make the weapons suite on western aircraft more deadly due to the weapons sysytems/delivery. However what is opten the case, Russian aircraft actual airframe/flight charactoristics are slightly better.
So which is the better overall attack helecopter?? Well you would have to say it depends on the situation?
Am I right in thinking that the Ka 50 is faster more manuverable and has a higher service cealing than the AH64?? That has to go a long way to being up there with the best.

I suppose what you need is western avionics in a eastern airframe? An Su 25 with western avionics has to take the edge over an A10, for example?

I think im right in saying that the Israelis toyed with the idea of doing that very thing? If they did does anyone know the reasons for not taking it?

ah 64 and mi 28 would perform the same way, if it were mi28 pounding highway 64 in gw1 instead of ah64 it wouldn't be any different, i don't think sligtly better missle or gun make a lot of difference in the hands of good pilot, using right taktics, every chopper has limits, it's up to pilot to know them and use the machine, the way it performs best.

Omon that was GW1.Now though the AH-64 has fire and forget weapons that can be fired from behind cover. An AH-64 team (1x AH-64D 1x AH-64A) can take on a company of Tor M-1 or Tungaska's and obliterate them as long as they have some small hills to hide behind. You can't kill what you can't shoot.

    Glosters,

service ceiling is not really allthat useful in most combat roles.attack helos do NAP not high attack. Also the AH-64 is doing yoeman service in Afghanistan. We had some problems with it in Albania but I beleive those two crashes led to some major fixes.

    .
so? of course it can, what makes you think mi28 can't do the same?
i think it perfectly cabable of doing the same thing.
what if there is no hill, and tors and tunguskas see you first? coppers will be dead, apache or havoc, makes no difference.
tactics, is the key, weapons are good enough on both sides.

I don't know what weapons the Mi28 uses, but AFAIK, if they are laser-beam guided, the Mi28 will have to come out from behind that hill to attack and guide the missile, and thus become vulnerable to counter-fire. The AH-64Ds LOAL radar-guided Hellfires don't need that. The Apache can pop out, launch, and duck, without worrying about the SAM.

Does this not come in to playat all? I mean in the Russia Afghan war the hind gunship's service cealing was an issue was it not? to operate in mountinous regions would imply that they would be at some altitude and therefore is an operational issue?
