I'd rather be backed up by a Marine pilot in a AH-1W than an Army pilot in an Apache

    Why?

Both are outstanding at what they do.
Its called Tourist Season. So why can't we shoot them?

Those post might be cute on Stratgy Page. But here, unless its one of us MilPros OBVIOUSLY joking around, it will get you a quick smackdown.

    Please refrain in the future

And I'm not a "Sir". My Mother and Father were married to each other when I was conceived.

Best attack helicopter..... Depends on what you want it for.

We got the Apache D for the British army.... Was it the right choise.... No i don't think so.

Too big, too expensive £26 mil a airframe!!!! and it is not field maintainable.

Don't get me wrong this thing is a monster. And dam can it take a pasting. But for the roll we were using it for i think it was the wrong choice.

    1. Folding Blade Mechanism for use in confined spaces on board ships.> Manual folding system... ya it's rubbish. Also the Apache was never designed for deployment from ships (Some british officers silly idea). The aircraft is designed to crash and roll, you blow the windows and escape. This system doesn't work over water = hit the water roll sink very quick, try to blow the windows and shred the crew. I hope i never see this!!!!

    2. Rolls Royce Turbomeca Engines, giving it 25% more power than the GE-T700s'. > Yep rtm 322's good engines same as EH101 sort of.
The US Government are currently evaluating these engines.

    3. Anti-Ice protection for the rotor blades. Not fitted

    4. Helicopter Integrated Defensive Aids (HIDAS).> Great system

    5. Connectivity to BOWMAN (Communications System).

    6. M230 Chain Gun (Same as US), Hellfire, Stinger, Starstreak, Sidewinder/Sidearm. >Ya that chain gun is something else
    Missiles, CRV 7 Rockets.

    7. Never Exceed Speed 402Km/h - 250mph, Max Speed 365Km/h - 227mph.
US version = 365Km/h - 227mph and 293Km/h - 182mph.> Mmm not sure about this the limiting factor is the blades and we have the same ones fitted.
Also a word on the armour or lack of, armoured seats, floors and side skirts only by the pilot only the gunner is really quite exposed with just a armoured seat and floor. The only armoured piece of glass is a blast shield between the pilot and gunner. But the design of the systems and airframe is very clever and battle resistant.

But dam is it great piece of engineering.

Lawdy, these fancy helos have to be fed and maintained. Attack helos cannot outrun their suppy chain, as bad-ass as you all feel about your airframes, I ask y'all to ask yourselves, who can deliver the grub? Who can zip in and drop off some food and comfort and a squad of ground cover that will eat up the competition? Heck, let's deliver a platoon of back-up! You fly-boys are all the same; gotta dog-fight with a helo... heh. Haha.

You do know that dogfighting is a fixed wing game right? Thin little 'attack' helos have no place in a dogfighting game, they can't take the body punches. Thin little 'attack' helos have a suite of bruisers behind them that can absorb damage... while the thin little ones direct fire. I'll take the 64 any day of the week; he's got some big brothers that can drop off little brothers on the ground all 'round that makes your air ballet look as gay as it is... (Sorry AH-64, we got your back...)
