So we have all agreed that the Super Bug, while a good all round aircraft, is rather lacking in the fleet air defence and long range strike roles. I have also heard it said that the Su-30MKI is one of the best fighters operational today. So; how about the navy buying a bunch of Su-27K airframes, putting American avionics in 'em, maybe upgrading the engines, and all around taking advantage of their undoubtedly good general design. Other than Range the "super Bug" as everyone calls it can compete with an SU-30 and carries the same amount of weapons the super bug can also land with un-spent weapons, the Flankers realiability has never been tested in combat so nobody really knows how it will stand up under the strains of war or even pounding off an aircraft carrier deck day in and day out. The Su-33 "su-27k" while used for a short time in the russian navy never were used liked the US navy uses its aircraft that and Russian aircraft are designed for different tasks and they would have no technoligcal edge over anyone. I would have rather seen US and France work together on the rafale and F-18E/F since both have the same requirements.
