Aussie review of the Eurofighter
Interesting read. They eventually get into the usually Eurofighter vrs F-22 comparison.
The results are they found the Eurofighter was 82% as effective as the F-22. They based this off the results of a DERA simulation of a postulated Su-35 threat. The results are used to determine the probability of a successful engagement. In BVR combat the F-22 was rated at 91%, followed by the Eurofighter at 82% then the F-15F at 60% then the Rafale at 50% and the F-15C at 43%. "The Typhoon's weaknesses are its F/A-18C class weight and thrust and the implications of this in combat at extended operational radii, and the longer term sensitivity of its BVR weapons advantage to equivalent technological developments in opposing fighters." "The strength of the Typhoon is its very modern and comprehensive avionic package, especially that in the RAF variant, and its excellent agility when operated around its optimum combat radius of about 300 NMI (a figure to be found in older Eurofighter literature, which has since disappeared with the export drive to compete against the bigger F-15 and F-22)." http://www.ausairpower.net/typhoon.html |

I take everything Carlo Kopp says with a grain of salt. He doesn't have the clearance to know the actual capabilities of any of the AC or weapons/systems he writes about, and he is mostly interested in pushing his own agenda.
The DERA simulation is next to worthless, imo. It was made before any of the subject AC were in service, and is full of assumptions that may or may not have anything to do with reality. IOW, it's a long list of ifs. Not that I don't like the Typhoon, but trying to place a percentage on a system in isolation when it's never used that way is just misleading.

LOL this guy actually thinks the RAAF should go with the Raptor over the JSF.
I'm not sure that the whole 25 planes we could afford would be enough for our needs, unless he envisions us deciding that whole 'Army', 'Navy' and 'Education' thing is no longer relevent.
