The Indian Air Defense Network

Indian Air Force is the fourth largest in the world and a lot has been said & written about it in the forum.

I was just curious about how effective are the India's air defenses which would include SAMs & AAA, because I have really not heard too much about them.

Any opinions??

That is what I thought as well & the links confirm the same:

Abundance of SA-7s & SA-16s. Pakistan posesses the same as well. One of these systems was used to down Indian Aircraft in 1999 during Kargil Conflict, when Pakistan airspace was violated.

The IAF seems to following the principle "Attack is the best form of defense."

Are talking of kargil? If yes then IAF migs 21 or Mi17 didnt violated pak airspace. Pak army claimed that mujheads on top of peaks shot them down & not PA.

"Claimed" is the key word in the sentence my friend.

Moving away from Kargil, I still wonder how would fast would the IAF respond to a surprise attack by any enemy Air-Force, in the absence of reliable anti-aircraft defenses.
