Screamjet: WaveRider (SED-WR)
I just happened to stumble on this when I was poking around on global security earlier.
The U.S isen't wasting anytime with their earlier scramjet successes. Looks like the U.S is planning a test flight of the SED-WR vehicle in 2008. This will be the first self-controlled free flying hypersonic vehicle if it works out. This will have interesting reprecussions to the aerospace industry as a whole if the U.S is successful. I also couldn't help but notice that the SED-WR was being build using a ATACMS booster assembly to get it up to sufficent speed. Looks like the military wants to fast track it into a weapon system if it works. http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita...craft/x-51.htm |
