I finally figure out what's wrong with this thread. Israeli propaganda sucks. There are no pictures of dead children, grieving mothers, homes destroyed. Just math about the attacks.

That's because we do our best to foil the attacks before they happen and minimize casualties if the attacks do happen. Plus, you know, the whole trying to be respectable thing.

The last time Israel actually released gruesome pictures, the Fogel family murders in Itamar, they were summarily ignored by the world media. Almost a year and a half later, not a single serious news organization published the pictures. To top it off, Israel was criticized for "stooping to Al-Jazeera's level"

Once again, hypocrisy at its finest.

You should know this already since you were in marketing. There is no such thing as bad publicity. The pictures were in our minds.

"I don't care what they say about me, just make sure they spell my name right!". I don't know if that is particularly relevant, because there is plenty bad publicity for Israel, but I do agree that our PR system needs a complete and total overhaul. That's why I want to get into it when I finish my degree

And you failed to take advantage of it. The Serbs just got as much bad PR as you did but they turned it to their advantage - don't fuck with us.

That line of propaganda doesn't work against someone who is actually bigger and meaner than you are. However, we are talking propaganda here, not battlefield realities.

Colonel, there's one main problem with your line of approach, and that's the fact that Israel is still way too closely tied to the US. I've argued for this here before, I think we need to stop receiving aid from the US government and approach the US as a regular, normal client state. The few billions that the US gives us a year means that a) we have to listen to US demands and accede to them on certain occasions and b) that we always need to worry about "offending" the US, lest they cut off the aid. In the grand scheme of things, those few billions a year are a small amount of our budget. We can survive without them, and in the long run it will lead to better benefits, being a truly independent nation, not a teenager living in his parents' basement and still getting an allowance.

    BR,

i'd say from a US standpoint that would be ideal, precisely because i figure israel gains far more from the relationship than the US does.

but from an israeli standpoint, this would be an utter disaster...and it's pretty obvious why. good luck with immediate resupply of arms (as in the Lebanon War and Operation Cast Lead). it's going to be a lot harder for israeli air force pilots to train-- airspace, the expertise, interoperability with the world's strongest air force. without US support of israel at the UN, israel gets to experience what taiwan has been experiencing for the last 30 years.

moreover, israel gets $3 bil annually from the US; her defense budget is $13 billion, which means a significant domestic bite out of the israeli budget.

and finally, israel loses the US nuclear umbrella, which was probably the only thing that saved israel twice from utter destruction.

in any case, if it really came down to it the US could still make its demands...very clear to the israelis. the only difference is that instead of just taking away the carrots, the US would start wielding a stick-- ie economic sanctions. end result in terms of freedom of action is the same; israel listens to the US except on matters which israel considers life and death. and she would be considerably less secure, and internationally isolated.

The human mind cannot grasp the causes of phenomena in the aggregate. But the need to find these causes is inherent in man’s soul. And the human intellect, without investigating the multiplicity and complexity of the conditions of phenomena, any one of which taken separately may seem to be the cause, snatches at the first, the most intelligible approximation to a cause, and says: “This is the cause!"

Palestinian admits to poisoning Raanana family

Beit Furik resident confesses to poisoning Lerner family because he 'hates Jews.' Two other suspects in custody

    Raanan Ben-Zur Published: 09.02.12, 12:00 / Israel News

Cleared for publication: A Palestinian man residing in the West Bank village of Beit Furik, near Nablus, was arrested for allegedly poisoning a Raanana family and a police volunteer in October 2011.

Adnan Othman Nasaara, 46, has reportedly admitted to lacing food and drink in the Lerner family home with pesticides, because he "hates Jews."

The police also arrested two other suspects in the case. One has been identified as Hassan Abd el-Rahim, 27, from Tira, who denies involvement in the act. The identity of the second suspect has not been revealed.

The case dates back to mid October last year, when the Lerners were the victims of a home invasion. Shortly after reporting the incident to the police, Eyal Lerner – having taken a drink form a juice bottle in the family's kitchen – collapsed and was hospitalized in serious condition.

His wife, Yifat, and the couple's toddler son were hospitalized shortly thereafter in moderate condition. All three exhibited the symptoms of poisoning.

Nasaara was arrested following a joint operation by the police and the IDF. During a search of his home, police found several hazardous pesticides.

According to the police, he admitted his involvement in the case and reenacted it for the investigators.

Major-General Ilan Mor, of Hasharon Subdistrict Police, said that it was unclear whether the suspect was planning to perpetrate similar nationalistically-motivated crimes in the future.

Police investigator Ilana Kosinovesko told Ynet that in his interrogation, Nasaara said he "hates Jews because they're Jews." The Shin Bet is taking an active part of in the investigation, she added.

All three are scheduled to be arraigned by the Kfar Saba Magistrate's Court later on Sunday.

The police plan to charge then with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a crime and burglary; and will ask the court to remand them pending the conclusion of the legal proceedings against them.
    1) As long as this is still about the Palestinian land and not about killing Jews because they are Jews. For the historical record, Ra'anana was founded in 1922 (well before 1967) by members of Ahuza A - New York on land legally purchased.

    2) Coincidentally, this happened about 4 blocks or so from my parent's house
