Neo,

They are banning mobile phones inside college/university campuses. They think these phones distract students from "academics" and crap(which is what they teach). Its about us students, nothing with others...

Hammer ?
I presume he is in some sort of 'reclusive' stage of his life right now.

Well, they are banned from schools here in Amstredam, atleast from classrooms.

I dont think the agitation would be of much use though.

Here;s one reason why they were banned. During our semester exams the last time around, one bloke from a college here was caught using a cell phone during an exam. So the morons decided to ban it completely.

They seem to think that banning them will put an end to malpractice. Those nitwits who want to use unfair means in an exam will not be discouraged, methinks. They'll always find some or the other innovative ways and put the wider decent lot into consequences.

The only satisfying thing is, even our professors are not supposed to carry it to college !

You wanna give CAT and get to the IIMs and you are worried about small issues like cell phones in campus?

BTW, cells arent allowed in the iims either...but then thats done more out of respect than anything else. Even the profs dont carry it or switch it off. So get used to it.
Mobile phones and laptops are a nuisance actually. Today they are less of a tool than a constant intrusion into your life. But I dont think a ban is a good idea.

I agree with that. That device has become so intrusive now that it has reached the point of addiction.

I'm getting used to not carrying it around now, which is departure from what many of us had been doing for quite some time now, last couple of years to be accurate.

But laptops, where are they restricted in the IIM's?
