    Greetings and Hallucinations

Glad to have found this forum - the things I've read here so far show me it's both informative and helpful, and that y'all are a friendly bunch who aren't scared to share detailed knowledge about things, or a good cold beer.

About me: I'm pretty much just an average joe. I don't hold any technical job, don't have a PHD (although I can pile higher and deeper with the best of 'em), and have typical East Texan opinions. I drive a Ford pickup truck and drink copious amounts of Dr Pepper, but I am not in any way, shape, or form a redneck.

I'm proud of my service to the US, most especially the time I spent aboard USS Iowa (BB-61) from 1988-1990decom/layup. I also served aboard the USS America (CV-66) during Desert Shield/Storm. Suffice it to say moving this battleship sailor to a floating airport was the kiss of death to my interest in remaining in service.

I'm also into computer gaming, although not nearly as much as I used to be since computer gaming doesn't pay the rent.

What else is there to know? I'm 3x divorced, have one kid who's all grown up now and in college, no pets or plants. I like reviewing other people's work in engineering, most especially in ballistics and mechanics involving Iowa class battleships, but I'm neither engineer nor hobbyist; I'm just an interested party.

Those of you who know me on facebook know my real name. Those who don't, won't, and I'd like to keep the two accounts separate from each other - this ain't FB (thank God) - and FB ain't here.

Anyways, have a cold one on me, and it's great to meet y'all!

[edit] Oh yes...that's really me in my avatar pic, standing next to the center barrel of turret one. I didn't even know this photo existed until a friend of mine at the Iowa vets association pointed it out to me. I was all of 21 in that pic and it seems like forever ago.[/edit]

Welcome, mate! Glad to have ya aboard!

(That grown up kid in college wouldn't happen to be a daughter, would it? )

Welcome. I would have guessed you're a Texan even if you had said so.

It's a Navy thing, you salute the Ensign and Officer of the Deck when you get on and off the ship. Or something like that...
