    Introduction

Hello and thank you for allowing me to participate in your group. As part of my introduction may I state that I am a seriously proud Viet Nam Vet and have every respect for those who currently serve. Thanks for taking the mantle. My background in Engineering, gas turbine from the SPRUANCE Class destroyers. I am also a proponent of big gun diplomacy. The bigger my gun the more everyone else's diplomacy. Yes I love the battleship and have written three full length novels in SF with design drawings as a series covering the actions of what is termed a Large Cruiser, however armament and armor is all battleship. I will be more than happy to post the drawing, but I am limited to Autocad 2000 and an old HP computer so I make do. This will come as soon as I figure out how to make it look professional and accurate.

My novels are as stated are SF with a slight lean toward as realistic ( or more believable) as I can. At least theoretically with a little literary license. In short my main character is a "Large Cruiser" carrying 16"/50 caliber Electromagnetically assisted rifles that are completely automated. No actual live crew in the turrets or magazines. KEARSARGE also carried 5"/62 caliber secondaries, 3"/62 caliber AA, four single rali launchers, plus a command control computer that can be accessed by the Captain via an implanted terminal in her head. Yes I said her head. She is a southern belle from Georgia who dislikes her inherent drawl. but is a tactical genius. The ship's overall design looks old school on purpose, but she is gas turbine powered on four shafts, CRP screws and passive vertical stabilizers. Again I will post the profile when I can figure out the best way.

Thanks for taking the time to first post an introduction-and a good one at that. Please take a moment to review our board policies and Zraver's Completely Unofficial Guide To Surviving The WAB.

We're an ornery bunch, foremost a retired Canadian lieutenant colonel of engineers with an affinity for a certain female Canadian singer who shall remain un-named (no, neither Anne Murray nor Joni Mitchell) along with other assorted curmudgeons, contrarians, brigands and the like.

You'll find kinship with Rusty Battleship and USS Wisconsin, both better men for clear Wisconsin roots and love of big ships that once DREADNAUGHT to sail in harm's way. So too one who takes his moniker from those fabled ships of yore, DREADNAUGHT along with HIGHSEAS and others. There'll be a former marine artilleryman, GUN GRAPE, who'll venture a thought now and again regarding big guns that go BOOM. Tread warily for he's a holder of the honored Honored (or Ancient-I'm unsure) Order of St. Barbara and knows his naval gunnery.

All in all, I think you'll enjoy your visits to WABBITville and the WABBITS.

    Welcome.

Though I was never part of the crew, I did take the opportunity to visit the MISSOURI at every opportunity. Plus I have read and in many cases studied every book on battleships, cruiser and carriers I can get my hands on courtsey of my local public library. I am a firm believer in if you are going to design something you'd better know how it is employed rightly or wrongly. That works for houses I design or remodel as a Designer/Draftsman and should for my hobby. I cannot claim to be very onrery though, not after havinf worked in a prison as a C/O, DOD Police offficer and survived the streets of LA where I grew up. I will though try to be respectful and not let my aligator mouth overload my humming bird behind. Thank you for your patience and service too.

Welcome, please feel free to post your battleship, I have a fictional BB thread in the battleships forum - or you can start a thread about it. A jpeg is ideal or a gif would work - be sure to keep the size in the guidelines.

Beings as 1st. impressions are key, I can only hope to make a good introduction.
Hello from Massachusetts "the over priced state", I'm originally from Philadelphia and served as a deck tech on the USS Iowa from 1986 - 1989. Although I can not say as I'm as well informed about engeneering & such as most of you, I did break the cardinal rule of Boatswain's mates & associate a lot of times with the engineering crew in shaft alley and a few other locations, so I can't really tell you the in's & outs of engine design... but I can tell you the best way to keep you brass shined, or paint a straight line when painting a waterline. Other than that... just glad to see a forum dedicated to those beautiful ships... THE BATTLESHIPS !
