Glyn,the name comes from an incident during the late 1800's when the city was under construction.In the process of felling trees and digging out stumps,one of the lumbermen working on the project(believe it was Great Granpappy Shamus),inadvertently tossed a still lit match into a large pile of wood shavings after lighting his pipe.This ignited a monstrous blaze that was soon out of control,raging up and over the surrounding hills.Luckily the area on fire was bounded on the sides by the Clinton River.When asked by the frantic lumbermen what they should do,Great Granpappy Shamus replied,"Well,it ain't goin' to get past the river....and it's burnin' them trees quicker than we could cut 'em down.....Awww.....let them durn hills burn...."
