DualCPU here

I'm DualCPU, and I'm new here. ironman420 let me know about this board on the unitednorthamerica board, and I thought I would stop by.

I live in Virginia (edge of the greater DC area), and I work in the defense industry in the simulation and graphics/visualization area.

Dual CPU, eh?

What kinda rig are you running? I've owned three dual-cpu machines machines in my life.

A Dell Dual P2 450 SCSI workstation with 512MB RAM.
A Sun Ultra 2 Dual 300MHz UltraSPARC 64bit CPUs, 512MB RAM.
A Dual Athlon MP 1800+, 512MB ECC DDR RAM, GeForce 4 Ti 4600.

But all I have now is an IBM ThinkPad T21.

Anyhow, welcome to the forum.

How much did your Thinkpad cost? I'm considering getting one.

It cost me $700+shipping off eBay. It was an IBM factory refurbished unit, in brand-new condition. You can get much cheaper examples of the T21 but I personally cannot use second-hand laptops. The laptop I got had:

P3 800MHz
128MB RAM
20GB 4200RPM 640KB cache Hard Drive
DVD
One USB1.1 slot

After upgrading, it has:
P3 800MHz
512MB RAM
40GB 5400RPM 16MB cache Hard Drive
CD-RW/DVD Combo drive
Cisco Aironet 352 802.11b WiFi PCMCIA card
PCMCIA USB2 card with 4 USB2 slots

The upgrade cost a pretty penny, but for me, it was worth every cent.

Damn, that's nice. I saw a laptop for 750 that had pretty much all I was looking for. 512mb DDRAM, 20 GB, Pentium 4 1.6 Ghz. Ethernet card, DVD drive. Optional burner.

It's a machine of my own design. It has 2 1 GHz P3s with 256 MB of RAM and 2 45 GB IDE hard drives in RAID 0 with a Elsa (now PNY) Gloria 3 video card. It's getting a little old so I think I will do a major upgrade in the next year.

I also have a dual machine at work, a custom built machine with dual 2.8 GHz Xeon machine with 1 GB of RAM, 2 36 GB SCSI hard drives, and a PNY QuadroFX 1000 card.

Damn, Elsa is now PNY? I was wondering where Elsa had gone to. Anyhow, welcome to the forum.

Elsa went bankrupt I think, and PNY bought them out. For a while PNY was running a real cheap upgrade special if your Elsa card failed. Unfortuneately, mine still works so I couldn't upgrade.
