Welcome.

A more hearty welcome than necessary since my wife is from Lucknow and I got married out there on the Gomti!

The 'mother' school of mine is located there - La Martiniere - the only school in the world with Battle Honours, awarded for the Defence of the Residency during the Sepoy Mutiny/ First War of Independence (tick your choice! )

You might find this interesting bit about the founder of our school. A frenchman who rose to a high rank in the British Army and later the East India Company.

Dave,

Thanks.

Our school is one of the premier institutions of the country.

It was by the will our founder, Maj Gen Claude Martin, a Frenchman in the pay of the British East India Company that it was established in Lucknow (where he made his fortunes), Calcutta (capital of British India then) and Lyons (his place of birth)

Our Motto is Labore et Constantia. That is why I labour so constantly here at WAB

Our Benefactor was Paul Chater.

It is an Anglican school, but secular in workings.

We are the only school in the world that has won a Battle Honour!

We have a sprawling countryside in Lucknow on which the school is located!

The countryside owned by the School would have accommodated possibly one British county! Just ribbing, but it is huge. There is one village and a golf course in what is a part of the school!

It is so expensive to maintain the school that we ex LMC people worldwide are contributing for its upkeep and so is the Govt because it is a Heritage building!

Texasjohn, Ray, thanks for the insite to the School and to dear M. Martin. He must have been one get-up-and-go type person who treads this Earth on very few occasions. I bet he's looking down from above with a smile on his face, and rightly so
