How do we get on this list of military members? I just joined this forum because I found a story about my Grandfather from when he was in WWII. I am a former US Marine and spent 8 1/2 years in the Corps as a Machinegunner, Sniper, & Platoon Seargent. Served from 90- 99.

Good Day, Sgt, welcome to WAB. To get on the MP program is relatively simple. Just present yourself and your unit of service and a funny story or two in this thread Stories!

Military Professionals Program

Hello Gentlemen,
Newby to the WAB - Was an Army wrenchturner with 602 Mt Co. in Ft. Hood,1978. A 45 Bravo small arms repair specialist - best cure possible, for a "gun nut". While on loan to DIO (Directorate of Industrial Operations), we inspected for rebuild or destruction thousands of M16A1 rifles.

Year later selected to OCS, Branch Ordnance 76A ? Speciality (Armanent Material Management). After Officer Basic, was asked to stay at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Had three assignments- Assistant Course Director at Student Officer Co. (Saw Big Brass) - Temporary Security Chief (Lots of classified stuff) finally Operations & Training Officer with Reserve Affairs Office. (Coordinated New Equiptment Training).

Trained on three of the first M1 Abrams, fourth was destroyed in testing. Saw the first M2 Bradly IFV & Hummer appear for testing & training. Remember how the Weapons Department used to point the M1 tank's thermal imagery system at the Training & Doctrine Directorate building in afternoon. They enjoyed watching the ladies appearance in this very new system. It was large, noisy & prone to shutdown. Amazing how things have improved over the last 25 years.

Have enjoyed your stimulating subjects & discourse. Hope to chime in on occassion.

I guess I should say good day in here as well.
I am a retired US Army Infantryman (NCO). I served from 1981-2001 and am a Gulf War Veteran. I served two tours in Germany, an extended tour (3 years) in Korea, and a couple stateside tours.

I worked at the National Training Center for five years after my retirement and am now currently a contractor working for the Air Force.

I don't know, as an 18 year old kid getting sent to Alberta where I could legally have a beer and my first real paycheck it wasn't so bad. The reserves is like camping, with guns......

You poor full timers though.... I wish I did it too but now I can only go home and rejoin the reserves, the gf says I can go away once though so I'll volunteer I think. We'll se how we go, plus it will give her and excuse to go back to Australia for awhile.

OoE, how long would a reservist go away for including pre op training? Keeping in mind that I have to start over as I've been out so long and do my QL2 all over again, and 3 has to be done too of course.

Depends on how fast you want to goto Afghanistan. Since you were previously in, they would hit you right up with the next immediate rotation starting to do their training.

This is a very interesting idea !
I served in the portuguese airforce as a technical corporal (air specialist); I was stationed in several bases, and I was in Azores airbase (from 1987 to 1989) where I met with american airmen !

Being (seemingly) the only Non Commisioned contributant, and not present to witness this engagement ... I wonder that the allies triumphed at all!?
From all accounts I've read, Rommel may have well been unstopable. (were he apropriately supplied) I understand, our (american) Tanks were gasoline powered (not good) had undersized guns (dito) I've never been told how those Matilda's faired, other than the out come, which (if we will quit bickering long enough) I'm sure we would all agree upon.
My understanding of the Russians is that, in spite of the undermining, and indeed atritiative effects of thier leadership, they mannaged (through thier suffering?) to hold out long enough to make a dam lot of T-34's ... and that seems to have exhausted the riechts supply efforts ...
I tend to agree ... It's never been about being the class of the class. It's about winning. If you do that in the factories ... so be that as it may.
A jolly well strong factor in why we correspond in english today ... don't you agree?
