Welcome!
An Afrikaans speaking R-4 aficionado! Originally from South Africa? One might think you'd been there! What does a Royal Australian Air Force Ground Defense Specialist do anyways? Is that like an Air Commando?

I've been to the Netherlands and study German ![]() geleer = learned, gelernt... ge- (past prefix) + leer and a verb shift to the end of the sentence. Quite simple really The rest is fairly evident.Wilkommen zu die Weltausgabenbrett! With a little creative translation, the German acronym is the same. Afikaans and English
Dutch is close to German and English. It's kind of in between. All the cognants make it hard to ignore English's Germanic origins. Afrikaans is almost identical to Flemish, a somewhat simpler (some say) Dutch dialetic.

If you sound it out it even sounds like English, if a little archaic (a lot like Old English). -I was upbringing with the talk. ![]() Last edited by sappersgt : 01-03-2007 at 14:17 PM. |

So Dutch speaking people can quite easily communicate in Flemish or Afrikaans, the grammer is quite simple but the pronounciation gives away your origin. Dutch like German is quite harsh unlike Flemish which is quite soft. |
