Your articles themselves explain why the Israelis seek to train in Turkey, it does not often snow in Israel, but they still have to be ready for alpine warfare if it does snow. Not to mention that training IN Turkey does not mean that they're being taught by your faultless and vaunted Maroon Berets. I don't fault you for your nationalism, but please do keep it within the bounds of sanity and reason, and quit the showboating, no one is impressed.

I am no expert about infantry tactics but I want to ask about the Trust Shot practice, why do you think it is so stupid? The risks seem obvious but afterall those in special forces aren't doing the safest job in the world and it seems psychologically useful. Also is it really that dangerous if the shooter is trained and experienced enough?

Here are my thoughts on this subject. Even though it is presented as a team spirit building ability, and practice, Trust Shot is a display of machoism; of manliness. It is highly likely to lead to training casualties which will result in the loss of extremely well trained personnel wasting valuable resources, and time invested in training aside from personal grievences.
Aside from special forces personnel, in such a culture as Turkish, where manliness and patriotism is encouraged to extreme degrees, Trust Shot practice is taken over by regular recruits as well. This can be observed in some commando units, building on the "commandos are superhuman" ethos in the society, where regular recruits start to establish their own Trust Shot routine. Naturally, this allows us to view the damage a G-3 can deliver to a human torso/head from 10 m. range. |
