I noticed that as well. I liked what you posted on the "best sniper rifle thread" We said pretty much the same thing about it.

BTW, no need to call me sir, I worked for a living.(do SGTs still say that?) I think thats as old as the Army.

No thunder lost, It just shows great minds think alike!

I have to admit I'm a little lost on the coronado thing, I've been out awhile and have to say I am mostly out of the current loop.

I heard that on the news as well.

Personally, I think the city is under enforced rather than the police being outgunned. No amount of firepower will do if no one, or no will, is there to enforce the law.

I believe this was the one I was thinking of:

Military Officer Politics

However, if you do a search for "starship troopers" and click "show post" then every single post with the words "starship troopers" will pop up. The good news is there are only about 3 pages of them.

It was meant to be all public service which falls under what you listed,to a point. I may be a little bias, given my background but generally when i think of service it constitutes as civil service

I can't figure out why so many choose not to serve. It was the greatest time of my life. Since getting out life has been rather uneventful, even compared to my time as a deputy sheriff and a bodyguard.

One of the first things I mentioned about myself after joining the WAB, was that I was looking to reenlist. That now depends on two things. 1.How fast I can pay off and sell a few things because the paycut is gonna kill me. 2.Who wins the oval office. No way in hell I serve under either of the socialists, and I'm not too crazy about McCain either.

I think alot of people are now under the impression if you join up you are going to Iraq. Wrong. And if you go to Iraq your going to see combat. Wrong again. I turned 18 in july and was in basic by august. I didn't have a chance at going to college, didn't have a skill and wanted to do somethig with my life. When I got out and came home I found the same handful of slackers(former high schoolclassmates) that laughed at me for enlisting. Now I earn three times more than they do (and still haven't been to college), seen the world and had adventures that would never been possible on my own. And unlike these tree huggin hippies, I made a real difference in the world by helping to bring democracy to countries that would have never seen it.

I really can't see why someone would not want to serve.

Service as a way to "Earn" rights that the US Constitution guarantees to all citizens is a bad idea. No matter how you slice it.

Quote:
Through service you live patriotism, nationalism, and learn to fully appreciate your history.
Through forced service you learn to hate the process that brought you there.

Nationalism can quickly become a US (Citizens) vs Them (civilians). They don't deserve XX because they aren't "real" Americans.

No thank you
Quote:
It would have a drastic affect on our countrys social situation, it gives people pride, self-esteem, resilence, the courage to stand on their own two feet and do something with themselves.
Except for those that, no matter how hard they try just are not cut out for it. And what do you do about those that for some reason can not serve?

People learn all those things that you mention having never set foot in a military environment. And some people in the military don't have those things.

But why doesn't someone start a new thread. Before we hijack and ruin a perfectly good one

Good Idea Gunny.

Could one of the mods or admins move our last few to a new thread. Maybe "should citizenship be earned?" I think its off to a good start here would hate to lose it.

Thanks.

I've tried some of that before and it never seems to come out right. I wouldn't want to screw it up.
