I think that those people wishing to join WAB and post here should have to complete a public profile and then make a formal introduction. Members should have 10 days or so to object to the candidate, who if he/she is thought acceptable can then start posting. This will stop the occasional advertiser and at least some sock puppets.

Good idea, Glyn
I joined a different message board recently and that it what I had to do to become a member...I had to send in a bio on myself and then that had to be approved by a moderator on that board before I could post.

I like our current 'Open Borders' policy, strangely enough. It's not that I object to letting just ANYbody join (kinda LIKE that aspect, actually). It's just maybe I wish we could all drop the n00b offenders (y'all know of my famously-low tolerance by now, I'm sure
) into a virtual Waring blender and set it to 'Annihilate', so we can all enjoy a FrootLoop Smoothie first thing in the morning. I suppose we have to be ready to absorb the irritations. I'll try harder to do that myself. Oh, I'll still wield the N00b Hammer with the ruthlessness that I always have, but instead of putting up the razor wire and minefields, I guess we'll just deal with it, and let the established members have some fun with the chew toys. (Hey, who was it that introduced that phrase, anyway? I really like it. ) |

I enjoy the noob questions, the answers to them serve a very useful education purpose. A recent noob question US vs NK ave me some updated insight into current US Army deployments in South Korea and if the noob is willing a treasure trove of solid critically based thinking for him to ponder.

And new members should read some threads and integrate themselves into the local culture before they start posting. Read which subjects are not preferred and the like. And it would be a good idea to allow them to sign a "user agreement" where they swear that they should not open India vs Pakistan threads, compare apples to oranges, or proclaiming that some particular item of military gear is the best.
In the meanwhile, we could have a fun game. We start typical pissing contest threads, and we see which moderator locks them first. First to lock 5 wins. |

Given the geo-politics at play, not to mention the terrains and the military hardware each country uses, I have come to the conclusion that Israel or India would win in any military conflict since I've only tasted their food and none of the others.
