Personally I would rather use a M1 Grand. Can't beat the accuracy. But if you want long range I would go for the Barret 82A1 .50 cal. Just me and for the record I am not a sniper. I did fire both rifles and love em both.

THIS is the best sniper rifle.
It has a ballistics computer that will actually calculate the coreolis effect, because the bullett's flight time is SOOOOO LOOOONG, the Earth's rotation could actually move the target out of the bullet's path. Okay, DAYUM! ![]()

Best sniper rifle? All depends on what you want to hit and the range of your engagement.
Less than 150m? use a heavy barrel M-16. It's surprisingly accurate at that range and very easy to handle. Longer than 800m and against material? Nothing beats a Barrett 50 cal.

Plus, what do we consider a sniper rifle to begin with? Ie, I'm not a sniper, probably a great rifle shot, but not a sniper. One of my scenarios is: you are out on desert patrol and you come across a drug plane loading. What do you do? Take out the plane, the trucks, the burros, remove their mobility, maybe take some of them out (maybe, it's a LE and not a military scenario) and get the heck out of there. The rifle for that is the AR-10 with a 30 round magazine. But is that a sniper rifle scenario .......... or something else? ------------------------------------------------ ("These guys can hit a bucket at 1000 yards."--Skinner about FBI snipers, (wtte), "The X-Files") Last edited by SnowLeopard : 01-16-2007 at 08:26 AM. |

go to Sniper's Hide : For Serious Tactical Marksmen : Home
Nothing but the best guys over there and more information than you could imagine dealing with long range shooting, both tactical and non tactical. |

Though as time passes that line is sorta blurring a bit. Not THAT much blurring though, lol.

Not sure if that was for the M109 or my scenario. If the latter, fair enough, but consider A: if it stops airplanes from flying, trucks from moving, burros from living, then it will certainly do a job on a person. AND B: then what is the single shot .50 rifle they sometimes show in SEAL films, where they are taking out plane engines at a distance? Anti-material or a sniper?
