Review: EE - 11 Urutu

Armored personnel carrier


Development documentation on the EE-11 "Urutu" Armored Personnel Carrier was finished in January 1970 and in July of the same year, there was already built it's first test example. Vehicles tests and pre-production improvement lasted till the 1974, when it's serial production began. As well as the EE-9 Cascavel Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle, initially produced for the Brazilian armed forces, soon the EE-11 "Urutu" Armored Personnel Carrier was exported to Bolivia and Chile (300 vehicles), Columbia (100 vehicles), Cyprus, Ecuador, Gabon, Iraq (500 vehicles), Libya (200 vehicles), and also to Morocco, Uruguay and Venezuela. Overall there were built more than 1 500 EE-11 "Urutu" Armored Personnel Carriers.
