Strykers to take a leading role in quelling the sectarian violence in Baghdad

CNN.com article here

More armour will intimidate Shia militias and Sunni Arab insurgents whose attacks have become more brazen and frequent, said Gen. George W. Casey Jr., the top U.S. commander in Iraq.

"This will place our most experienced unit with our most mobile and agile systems in support of our main effort," the general said. "This gives us a potentially decisive capability to affect security in Baghdad."

I think the Strykers have been tested for a couple of years now and passed with flying colors.

Seeing as how a lone Stryker Brigade has been the primary US unit in Northern Iraq for three years now, I'd say yes.

Major Shek would know more as he commanded a Stryker company in Mosul a couple years ago, but he hasn't been around too much lately.

They have had, and continue to have, several shortcomings(not the least of which is their inferior weapons system/fit IMHO), but they are still eminently servicable vehicles.

And no disrespect intended to the general, but the Caliphate does not often succomb to intimidation.

At least not in Somalia, Iraq, or Afdirtistan they havn't been...
