TEHRAN, March 12 (UPI) -- Tehran's police chief has resigned following his arrest after being found naked in the company of six nude prostitutes in a local brothel.

Reza Zarei stepped down from his post following the raid, reportedly ordered by Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, chief of the judicial authorities, Ynetnews reported Wednesday.

Zarei has been in charge of enforcing the Islamic dress code on Iranian women to help with "moralizing of the city," the Israeli news agency reported. During the past six months, hundreds of young people were arrested for not honoring the Islamic code of behavior.

Rumors of the brothel incident had been rampant in Iran for the two weeks. Last week Zarei was replaced as Tehran's police chief after four years.

The arrest wasn't reported by any of Iran's official news agencies, Ynetnews reported. Farda News, associated with Tehran's mayor who is also a former police chief, broke the story.

Where's the Teheran paparazzi when you REALLY need them?

They'll hang him, won't they? Or beheading? I'm not sure but it's something like that. Seems that they just whacked a bunch of guys for adultery.

This would seem to qualify if he's married.

Maybe best just to turn him over to the ol' lady, eh?

No No that poor chap isn't at fault, it's them terribe women. They will be given a fair trial, then stoned to death. He will say he was working under cover(pun intended) and has managed to break a sinful prostitutes Den. Promotion assured
