Note the last sentence in my post "or the aerial equivalent of the same" 
UAV's would definitely be on my shopping list if I was Iran.
Nothing else will really suffice.
The numbers, the training and the technology simply aren't there for stand-up conventional aerial warfare against the United States. Not even close.
That's not jingoistic patriotism, it's just hard numbers and facts. |

The the US alone you have a range of models, starting at the of the heap, there's the $35 million Global Hawk with a range of 3000 miles and at the "bottom", there's the hand-launched Dragon Eye with a range of 3 miles. |
