WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. will approve Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's request for a visa so he can visit the U.N. as the Security Council moves to impose additional sanctions against his country for its refusal to suspend uranium enrichment.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Friday that the United States has approved a U.S. visa for Ahmadinejad previously and will do so again, consistent with its obligations as host country for the United Nations.

Ahmadinejad has been a vociferous defender of his nation's nuclear efforts and a critic of the U.S.

On Thursday, the five permanent members of the Security Council - the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France- along with Germany compromised on a sanctions package to step up pressure on the Islamic republic to suspend uranium enrichment. The full council will consider the measures in coming days.

At a rally Thursday in the central city of Meibod, Ahmadinejad said, "These threats won't have one iota of effect on the strong will of the Iranian nation."

The UN headquarters should be moved to one of the European countries... it would be much more convinient for everybody... anyway, most of the important issues/participants are located at Eastern hemisphere

The UN was the worst idea we ever had and the world pays for it everyday. That being said, we can't stoop to the level of Ahmadinejad and Chavez. Let them have their right to say what they have to say and make fools out of themselves.

If he acts the same on the U.N. floor then somebody should just tell him to save the air fair because they will regard him as an immature child making terroristic threats and wont even listen to him much less walk out during his address. IMO I dont think its in the Iranian peoples interests to see that happen in front of the U.N. It certainly wont solve anything much less make their lives any easier. They should take the hint after NK's first few rounds with the U.N. and look where they are now...back to talking and resolving issues.

He is in too emotional to be good speaker at UN.... he focuses on his domestic political positions but UN is not a right place to play this. He may actually hurt his own interests by speaking there
