I found this too funny. I actually had seen the ad when I ate at Subway a while back and never read into. On a personal note, I think that there's too much made over the French decision to not participate in OIF, but still enjoy good satire when I see.

French-bashing alive and well in America?
The article you link to at the web site Expatica says this ad is clearly "France bashing."
It tells of an ad run by the Subway chain that touts a cordon bleu chicken sandwich with the words "France and chicken, somehow it just goes together". A photo of a chicken dressed like Napoleon accompanied the advertisement.
Subway ran the ads in about 10 US states for nearly a month and pulled them in September following an outcry by members of the French expatriate community and other customers offended by the racist undertone.
"Racist undertone?" Not sure if the that is a fair charge, but it the the French are sensitive about being associated with "chicken," perhaps they ought to take a look in the mirror. A spokesman for Subway provided a unique explanation for the ad, saying it was aimed at "lauding French cuisine."
As I picked myself up off the floor after realizing "double entendre" was a french word that was perfectly applicable here, I realized "Best of the Web" is right. The ad is wrong ... it should have shown a weasel - not a chicken.

Nothing wrong with a little cross-Atlantic bashing.
I wish I had a picture of the Statue of Liberty one. That's sounds funny. The 9/11 parody is in poor taste, however, IMO.Originally Posted by SloMax

Some time ago I started a topic about that. Under the subject line "Subway! Hate's Amis". A take-on of their theme song on North American t.v.Originally Posted by SloMax
