    Iran-Punjab cultural, educational & business ties mooted

    A 3-member delegation led by Iranian Ambassador Siyavash Zargar Yaghoubi called on Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh here late last evening and evinced keen interest in setting up joint ventures in Petro Chemicals Industry.

    Mr. Yaghoubi also impressed upon the Punjab Chief Minister to have cultural exchange programmes between Punjab and Iran on regular basis because both shared a common regional, cultural and historical heritage.

    Capt. Singh agreed to the proposal put forth by Iranian ambassador and also mooted an idea to strengthen the Persian Chair at Punjabi University Patiala through mutual exchange of cultural and lingual programme to revive the glorious and age old legacy of Persian language.

    The Chief Minister assured Mr. Yaghoubi that a strong cultural base was one of the most vital aspects to promote bi-lateral trade and commerce activity because cultural affinity brings people more closely there by cementing the bonds of ethnic ties. Capt. Singh also suggested that a cultural week show casing the traditional and cultural folklore of Iran and Punjab to keep the future generation apprise of the rich heritage.

    Mr. Yaghoubi extended an invitation to Capt. Singh to lead a delegation of prominent Industrialists and progressive farmers to Iran to explore the possibilities for the promotion mutual trade to the advantage of both the economies.

    Prominent amongst others who were present of the occasion included PWD (B&R) Minister Partap Singh Bajwa, Financial Commissioner Development P.K. Verma, Principal Secretary Industries S.C. Agarwal, Mr. Ainollah Souri, Counsellor, Head of Energy-IT-Biotech Section, Mr. Shakhib Khan, Counsellor of Iranian Embassy.
