Tata Own DAEWOO? Hmmm I thought it'd be something like Tata got manufacturing and/or distributing rights of Daewoo vehicles. I say that because a similar system is followed in Pak. From what I've seen with Suzukis they're both marketted in Pakistan and India with this same strategy. Like Marutis in India are Mehraans in Pakistan.

It was from a TATA trust that scholarships were granted to many a nuclear scientists to study in those days.Read the book Weapons of Peace by Raj Chengappa.

JRD.TATA was in the same jeep with Indira Gandhi in Pokhran'74.Shows his importance.

Citizen Tata’s greatest gift to the scientific establishment came in 1945 when he gave the founding grant to Homi Bhabha to set up the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. This institute has proved to be, in Bhabha’s words, "the cradle of our atomic energy programme"
His was a life which often shaped history: He pioneered civil aviation on the subcontinent, funded Homi Bhabha’s ambition to catapult India into the nuclear age,...

Ratan Tata drove to his newly acquired Korean Daewoo plant in a TAXI
Imagine , you buy a whole CV division of a giant like Daewoo and you go to your factory in a TAXI !

That impressed the Koreans a lot.The whole plant is now , like me , a great fan of the TATAs.

    The Jamshedpur Steel industry.

So let us trek back to 1893, and an accidental meeting between a merchant and a monk.
Sometime in that year, a ship called the Empress of India sailed from Yokohama in Japan to Vancouver in Canada. On board were two extraordinary Indians - Jamshetji Tata and Swami Vivekananda. Both were headed for Chicago which was to host the World's Columbian Exposition, a celebration of technology and industrial progress. The exposition opened on 1 May 1893. ...

It was a meeting of two visionaries. The merchant was a keen supporter of social reform in India. The monk was very passionate about science and development. On board the ship, Tata and Vivekananda discussed the former's plans to start a steel mill in India. It is said that the swami told Tata that there were two parts to the challenge - manufacturing technology and the science of steel. The former could be bought from abroad but the science had to be researched at home. This seeded the idea in Tata's mind to start the Indian Institute of Science at Bangalore. He later wrote to Vivekananda in 1898, asking for his support for the venture: "I know not who would make a more fitting general of such a campaign than Vivekananda."
