In Maharastra even temple charity funds are not to be spared by the MLAs, big temples that receive lakhs of donations each week from devotees are actually controlled by the state in the sense that they decide where all that money should go. NOrmally that money should go to research or charity. For example one of my friends,a prominent doctor in Mumbai has been waiting for 10 years to get some money from that fund for cancer research and upgrade in the hospital he works for. Now ndtv breaks the news that all that money was going into the charities headed by the relatives of MLAs and mostly in their pockets.

I do understand the fustration about the system we have because I am fustrated as well but I dont think that we are helpless, this is our country, we can make a difference. I think that the media has done a decent job of late to expose the nation to the corruption we all know about, we need to get up and vote, join politics, create a third front, pressure the courts to impose rules on MLAs etc.

As for MLA cars, i wish i had met you guys when i was in Delhi in december. One visit to this night club Climax in the vip section would put you all in shock as to what our MLAs are all about.

Its funny, I was in Mumbai two weeks back, went to Indigo restaurant,a trendy place, i saw so many of our netas there who were throwing a party where Don Perignon was flowing like no tomorrow... You wonder sometimes how 30000 rs a month can make you afford a 18000rs bottle of champagne.

You know i dont think Mumbai is that bad but then again my family has a house in the Malabar HIlls area, roads are good there, i think that overall Mumbai has some hope left in it. Its the greatest city in India, i love it to death.

The problem there is this stupid 1947 rental act that has fostered this mentality of the landloards waiting for their buildings to collapse so that they can sell their land. I cant believe the prices in Mumbai, its too expensive, went with my friend who was looking for a house a few weeks ago, well apartment actually, it was a decent place, nothing special in South Mumbai, price was 1.1 crores, WOW, that is unaffordable!!!!! This neta builders nexus must stop and prices need to come down, people need to play a more proactive role. In Mumbai even slums can cost you 4 lakhs...

But temple funds going into the pockets of MLA's is absolutely shocking. Don't they spare even charities?

This is such a routine affair in politics, cutting across party lines. How could people not demand anything when corruption was being institutionalised in the 45 odd years that a single party won absolute majority in parliament?

One just hopes that your sense of optimism and enthusiasm will bear fruit.
