Thanks for the response. China is doing very large scale infrastructure improvement. You can guess it from the usage of the iron and steel, cemment each year. China uses around 300 million tons of iron and steel each years and uses 55% of cemment of the world.

60% of Chinese are farmers. But not everyone are poor. Guangdong province alone has 80 million popuation. Shandong province has around 100 population, Jiangsu has about 70 million, Zhejiang has 50 million, Fujian has about 40 million. Farmers in these provinces are rich. Some counties, towns or viledges are even richer than Shanghai people.

In my expression, 20% of Chinese are poor. Less than 30 million people are below the poverty line according to the official report. Considering China can produce twice of the grain India produces, food is not a big issue in China.

Well firstly india produces nough to feed its people. U just produce extra . Further half of indian produce is wheat ( while china produced primarily rice isnt it ) and wheat intake is lower as its more nutritious.

If u want to count on the stuff where china is better i can give u many where china is worse. So lets not start that .
Teh villagers are pretty poor in china and are not allowed to move into the cities to work unless they have permits to make sure taht the chineese cities dont get slums. These things cannot happen in democracies.

Bleh...China "CAN" produce ?? so whats stopping China from producing them now?? your thick head?? Food is not a big issue in India, heck most of our graneries are full. Its the right logistics to take them to the people and China is no better than India in that.

I have the explain in another thread. Whay you said is wrong. You can find the answer.

Generally, Southern China plants rice and nortern plants wheat for food.

Even China's grain production is about twice of India. China imports about 50 million tons of food each year. As I know India is a net grain exporter. Can you explain this? I have no answer.

Some numbers: China's peak production is 500 million tons in 1998. The lowest production is about 430 million tons due to the industrilization and farmers leave homes for te jobs in coastal area or cities , also a lot of farming land was returned to forests and lakes . Two years ago, gov reduced the farming tax, farming became almost tax-free. Some farmers gave up the jobs in citis and went back for farming for better earning. China' grain production reached 460 million tons in 2004.

Indian produced about 250 million tons of grains in 2003. I know that's the best year for India.

I just tell you the truth. It depends on if you likeit or not. Don't be so hash.

well, it depends on what "grains" you grow and how many people "eat" it. Coz unlike China, in India Rice is not a staple food but wheat is. India is self sufficient in Rice/Wheat production and this year prolly we'll import pulses.

So comparing these two would be like comparing apples and oranges and so your comparision is totally wrong.

I have to be honest with you, this is a biased collection of picutures. You left SiChuan, Tibet, Inner-Mongolia, Shan'Dong, He'nan and other western provines out of the collection. Those regions make up over 60% of Chinese population

Cooldw, my guess is, the Indians happen to know Oneman from another forum and that we just might be watching the usual Indo-Chinese pissing contest where they post pics of each others skyscrapers and post the nastiest articles they can find about each other starting to unfold before our very eyes. In this case, it seems Oneman has taken the lead by firing the first salvo with his skyscraper pics and such and with his flamebait post in another section where he tried to provoke Americans' into getting mad at Indian members of the forum when he posted some nonsense about America being dependent on Indian immigrants.

Who knows, maybe even you and I will end up being part of it. Should be fun
Am out of town for a while and then have tons of work coming up at school. Will be back once that's all done.

We shouldn't bash India or China here. But I've been to the Chinese countryside once with a Mandrain-speaking friend. Some of the places were VERY poverty strcken. They felt that they were ignored by the government. No help to them, all money going to the cities. They have no power or representation. Yes, communism may look good to the outsider, but not to the people whom are involved.
