What A Tibetan Says About His Hometown

    Namjagbarwa, From Eastern Tibet

I'll use the name of my hometown's pride as my user ID here,---Mt.
    Namjarbarwa.

My English is not good so pls pardon me if you see any typo and mistake.

I am from Nyingchi Region, Eastern Tibet. 70% of my beloved homeland are
under Indian military occupation. All Thanks to the British support in 1962.
    But that's another story.

During the past month, I've witnessed alot protests here in U.S. and been
told about riots back at my homeland. I think it's my duty to clear on some
FACTS that are obviously and selectively omitted by the media and protesters.

    1. His Holyness the Dalai Lama DOES NOT represent Tibet. Our Tibetan
Buddhism has 4 schools:Gelug, Nyingma, Sakya, Kagyu. HH the Dalai Lama is
ONE of the TWO most respected living budda of Gelug(Yellow Hat Sect),
another one is Panchen Lama. HH the Dalai Lama can only represent farmers
and town living Tibetans from North Central Tibet(Centered with City of
Lhasa), which is about 20% of entire Tibetan population at the most. Entire
South Central Tibet(Centered with City of Xigaze) worship Panchen Lama only,
as well as we who are from Eastern Tibet only believe NyingMa Sect, the Red
    Hat.

    2. Example: If the President of Confederacy, Jefferson Davis, fled to Europe
after the Civil War was lost. Can he represent all Americans? I don't think
so. He IS qualified to represent all the slave masters though.

    3. Since 1980, We Tibetans have not paid ONE cent of Tax to the central
government. We Tibetans have NOT paid ONE cent on fertilizer and seed. We
have promotion access to housing, education, birth, employment and all kinds
of other social benefits. The name of this promotion policy is called the
Affirmative Act in the United States. I don't know what it's called in Tibet
and honestly I didn't really care. It's been there since I was born. When I
realized that policy only applies to minority groups in China, I am already
    13. I got 10 points raise on my average score when I graduated from
elementary school. And I know my brother got 20 points when he graduated
from high school. There are 10 Million high school graduates competing to
get into college every year. Can you imagine how many advantages this 20
point can make?? BTW, I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters, and there goes so-
called "Forced Birth Control among Tibetans".

    4. Just like 95% of other Tibetans, my family was farmer-slaves before 1959.
We've always been slaves till HH the Dalai Lama and his slavery government
escaped from Tibet, along with most slave masters. Though the Chinese Army
already stationed in Tibet in 1950, the reform, the abandon of slavery
system was not carried out by central government. One story is that in 1954,
Chinese Army was hiring in my village to help them building concrete roads.
After they found out that their payments to the villagers are all robbed by
slave masters, they were angry and started paying merchandise and goods
directlym, just to make sure the masters can't take them away. That was 4
years after People's Liberation Army entered Tibet.

    5. I am kinda tired telling these stories now. I don't know why the world
outside Tibet had so many misleadings and understanding to our homeland. I
really appreciate that you said you were speaking for Tibetans. But there
are 3 million Tibetans living in Tibet now and you are only listening to
those around HH the Dalai Lama??? Our living conditions are much bettern
than those in exile and much much better than 50 years ago. and none of
these was the effort of exile Tibetan government,ZERO. We earned it by our
sweat drops and promotion policies from central government. Not a living
buddha who was randomly picked by HH. And we want our life to be better and
better. Talking about moral standards and religion freedom, we Red Hat Sect
can practice all traditional customs everyday. I don\'t know what happened to
Yellow Hat and I don't understand why they seem like the only troubled ones
in Tibet and mostly I don't see how can HH the Dalai Lama become the
    Representative of Tibet?!

Long live Tibet, Long live Peace, Long live China.
    I finally saw a Tibetan's post.

    A friendly advice, Fiona.

If you want to be patriotic to your CCP government, you don't want to have this discussion.
CCP government changed its position and will meet with Dalai Lama's representatives. It's true that some Tibetans do not consider Dalai Lama their leader. But such discussion will magnify the embarrassment of the CCP government's decision

Two pieces of friendly advice, UnderSpin.

Next time, you'd better listen to voices from both sides and not judge one's standpoint just by your random guess.

I quoted what a Tibetan said, because during the past discussion here, we found that we could hardly find one comment from a Tibetan. If you have anything to contribute to our knowledge about what they think, you are welcome to post it here, too.

    LOL

Do you happen to know that our government has never refuse to talk? The official saying is : the door of talking is always open

Dig up more before you said something.

Plus, politics is politics, embarrassment? Never, no politician in this world would know this word.

Underspin, I have to say again,
What CCP is doing has nothing to do with we Chinese opinions. The face-face meeting between CCP and Dalai is welcomed by most Chinese people. But we do still have our right to tell others the real story of Tibet. You have right to choose to buy the story or not. But you have no right to ask others to shut up.

You are really a good model of citizen, no matter in China or US.

You are right. I should have been more careful discerning who speak for CCP and who speak for themselves.
In this case I made an unfair generalization and deserve to lose some face

    A very interesting piece indeed!

But for Fiona’s kind sharing of this wondrous discovery of a Tibetan finally posting on the net the great advancement in Tibet ever since China came in, we would have been denied a view of this social and economic progress dynamics in Tibet.

This piece has all the inputs of a well thought out Chinese manner of information for the people of the world.

It starts with the usual “My English is not good so pls pardon me if you see any typo and mistake.”

It pleases that the Chinese are polite in debate and can also teach other nationalities of China how to be like the Hans, irrespective of their cultural and social heritage. Indeed, this great aspect of China wherein they prevail upon all minorities and transmogrifying them into the Han culture. It is a great achievement to have one single culture in a huge country like China and which is welcomed and assimilated by all, including the minorities!

In fact, the Chinese mode of integrating society with persuasive emancipation wherein minorities sing the paeans of the majority’s seamless assimilation of a minority social and cultural divide, is a lesson for all multi religious and multi cultural countries of the world. While others are besotted with sectarian conflicts, China apparently is beyond such unfortunate divisions in society! Indeed, one wonders if the Tibetans have indeed not revolted and that it is only a figment of imagination of the western dominated media, or even the CIA!! Could it be that this is what this article, discovered by Fiona so providentially, is attempting to suggest? Or have I missed something?

It is such a pleasant change that this article is presented in a polite and humble manner with ‘facts’ presented in a very harmless and logical manner that is not aggressive, but more as if in docile wonderment as to why issues are being misunderstood. It is so pleasing that it is a departure from the Chinese that descended on internet of late and more so, in hateCCN.com, where they rather pathetically present their ‘intellect’! In comparison, it is a humble farmer’s son Tibetan, who is poor and not sophisticated, has done better for China than the Hans!! This makes me a bit uncomfortable. This, itself, indicates that the Chinese assistance has been able to spur the Tibetans to better the Chinese in intellect. Is this Tibetan suggesting in a very subtle way that the Dalai Lama need not take over and that they themselves will do it, being more clever and astute than the Han! If so, it is time to take cognisance that they are not the illiterate, crude serfs of yesteryears!!

The fact that he has seen the protests in the US indicates that he has the finances to have been there, not only to travel, but also to sustain himself. It is obvious that he is either sponsored by the Chinese govt or by the Dalai Lama. And his article does not speak of the rebellion in Tibet except in an oblique and pacifist way and he takes the cover of the Red Hat vs Yellow Hat controversy to cover his flanks. This is what makes me wonder if he is but a Dalai Lama supporter in secret and yet biding to the Chinese CCP demands to put this article. More so, since Tibet and West China does not have the affluence of East China, one wonders what he is doing in the US!

This Tibetan is not the village idiot as is portrayed in a condescending way of the Tibetans by the Chinese i.e. the Chinese brought in emancipation and education and freed them from serfdom. He is educated and he is well versed with US history.

One can’t help but appreciate his throwing in comparative allegories from US history that the targeted audience can fathom and relate to.

But I remain confused as to whether he is a Dalai Lama plant or a Chinese CCP plant.

Notwithstanding, we can thank Fiona, for this discovering this excellent find of the sole literate internet savvy Tibetan! It does suggest the great effort done by the Chinese govt for the education and emancipation of the serfs of Tibet.

Sadly, there is but one and that too discovered by a Chinese, who, some Chinese feel is on a patriotic treasure trove!!

The fundamental problem with a post like this is that there is no way to verify that that post is genuine, and if it is, it represents the voice of a large number of Tibetans.

To do that, we need freedom of speech and elections for the Tibetans.

If Fiona has discovered this excellent piece of emancipation, we should not decry her.

I am sure that she will provide the link.

After all, she has been exposed to western ways in Ireland and now she is in China.

She knows when she sees a good thing to project her country's image.

They all have freedom. Only that it is a trifle guided and they don't mind it since the culture of which they are proud of speaks of the State being Supreme!

Even this Tibetan believes in the Han culture.

Isn't that a great thing for multi racial countries like India to learn? Gentle coerce all to the majority ways?

Let us learn from these wise Hans not not lampoon them!

    Sir,
Why should the minorities be coerced to the majority's way of life? Unity in diversity is what I believe in, if a nation cannot accept me for who I am, I dont want to live in "that" nation anymore. India cannot learn anything from China on this aspect. I dont want to loose my culture and identity and be a sock puppet to some government's nation building exercise.
