well, well, i lived in campbell about 14 years ago now, and cupertino 10 years ago! small world.

didn't like campbell that much; it was rather deserted at the time. cupertino, though, that was a pretty nice place to live.

i went back last year to cupertino. interesting to see the new- well, not so new now- apple building. some parts of it- cupertino village IIRC- is now referred to as little taipei. and they're right

Sapper you know how prospect then heads off into the mountains? Well there's a small street that goes left from it, called Parker Branch I think (I'm not sure, I remember it visually much better). If you go to the top. Theres a court with houses on one side and a small grove of trees on the other. If you go into that grove and to the other side you can see the whole Silicon Valley.

Astralis I think you'll be disappointed to hear that Cupertino turned into Asia in recent years.

feanor,

well, to be honest, not particularly disappointed- it was already pretty asian when i was there, and the continuing immigration has actually forced the city to get rid of some of the old eyesores and deserted shops.

as for cupertino being asia...wait till you go to southern california's roland heights, or monterey park. now THAT's asia, in a rather more raw form than cupertino.

EBay stops sale of Belgium - Yahoo! News

EBay stops sale of Belgium Mon Sep 17, 6:18 PM ET

BRUSSELS (AFP) - Internet auction website eBay on Monday withdrew an unusual second-hand sale item, the country of Belgium, which had attracted an offer of 10 million euros (13.9 million dollars).

"Belgium, a kingdom in three parts" was posted on the Belgian ebay site as offering "plenty of choice" despite the caveat that it comes with "300 billion of National Debt."

Offered in three parts -- Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia -- the accompanying blurb said the kingdom "can be bought as a whole (not recommended)."

The vendor also included as added extras "the king and his court (costs not included)."

Ebay spokesman Peter Burin said the site could not host the sale of anything virtual or "unrealistic," the Belga news agency reported.

The 'vendor' was named as a former journalist, Gerrit Six. Offering his lot at an initial price of one euro, he saw 26 subsequent bids culminating in the 10 million euro offer on Monday before the auction was halted.

The spoof sale was offered while Belgium is mired in a political crisis which has led to discussion over the country's future as a federal state.

Tuesday marks 100 days since the country's general election with no sign of a coalition government being formed by the political parties in Dutch-speaking Flanders and French-speaking Wallonia.

According to the ebay spokesman, it wasn't the first time Belgium had been put up for sale.

"But the last time it wasn't a Belgian who made the announcement and it wasn't as well done or as amusing," said Burin.

''According to the ebay spokesman, it wasn't the first time Belgium had been put up for sale.''

This brings new meaning to the word sellout.

True, but that doesn't mean that the past 400 years haven't been a wham.
You've got to be joking !!?

They spend 200* of them oppressing the "jolly olde natives", und forcing dist Pig Latin upon us all (I much prefer to speak in mine Native tongue, Gaeilge, but we didn't go on a binge conquest, so there it is)- the sooner it dies the better (no offence to any English, Welsh or Scottish readers, the bottom line is you've proven you can't be trusted with a ship, map and united flag )!

*150 of the other ones they were busy beheading Catholics and slapping the Dutch and French silly - the last 50 they gave us Britpop and James Bond, crimes all round .

Belgium does not really matter, with the rise of Abortion, decline of families and Christianity, within 20 years Europe will be primarily Muslim and African anyway, much in the same way that the USA will be primarily, Hispanic by 2030.

What has Christianity to do with anything? People that aren't Christian will not automatically turn Muslim.

When the Muslims control most of Western Europe due to the the decline of European caucasian population through abortion, dissolution of families and decline of Christianity, they will impose their form of control:
Sharia Law, under which all who are not Muslims must convert or be killed. Because most Europeans are weak minded socialists they will cower in fear and submit to the Muslims, and the few Christians that remain in Europe will be forced into hiding or will be killed. This is nothing new, it has happened before with others: Mongols, Romans, Visogoths, Franks, Nazis etc., it is just now Europeans are so weak they would rather submit to the Muslims than fight them.

I retract my statement about finding what you say insulting. It just felt so, because it seemed that you wanted to say that everyone who does not follow a book that is older than 1000 years does not believe in anything.

The Europeans are weak, yes, and the question is if they will start acting like fiends and murder out the Muslims, or surrender. In any case, I will fight till the bitter end.

scandinavia

JMH - Your predictions are wrong, particularly regarding Scandinavia. Sweden has one of Europes highest percentages of Muslims. I read in one article that foreigners make up about 21 percent of the countries population, most of whom are Muslim immigrants. Sweden will be Europes first Islamic country.

Muslims in Western Europe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That's true................in absolutely NO WAY, Muslims comprise 3.9% of the Swedish population - but wahey, who's counting?

The only good thing about scarmongering is that it's easily disprovable.
