Perhaps you received free medical treatment from our much maligned National Health Service as we get a lot of 'health tourists' freeloading here. Perhaps you received free education at one of our higher educational establishments. I don't know. As a simple retired overtaxed officer of Her Majestys armed forces I am used to having to listen and read all the bile the ingrates pour out. But my new years resolution is to frankly ignore these squeaky wheels. Print the facts or shut up. Have a nice day now, y'hear?
what facts? How would you even know what racism is unless you experienced it as a minority? I just love it when people in majority trying to tell minorities that racism doesn't exist.

Just to let you know, when I lived in Manchester, people would call me "ching-chang" (or something similar), telling me to "go back to China" (or something to that effect) every day. When I play football, people would say that I'm from China with a look of disdain. Enjoying some level of welfare benefit (which I do have to say is better than the welfare offered in Canada and USA) does not mean I should face abuse daily for my skin colour.

It must be a generational thing. When my brother and I were called names, it was an invitation to start fighting. And you're damned younger than I am.

So much bullocks has been written on human psychology, behaviour, sociology etc (Let’s start with Freud). Even when they actually carry out studies you get a whole host of successive different interpretations of the same study. It’s all pretty soft science.

Well, you are entitled to your views.

I would however give the expert in a field due regards for his knowledge in his field.

I don't think the stuff that I quoted is beyond belief.

I would prefer to believe a Vietnam veteran explaining about that War rather than any old Charlie who wishes to ride his favourite hobby horse and, there are many Charlies who have written about the same, possibly without having seen a bullet fired in anger.

If I didn't believe in doctors, then I would have gone with the Grandmother remedies and would have not had the unique opportunity to have known you in this cyberspace!

Good to know you actually, notwithstanding the fact that we may disagree.

Whatever. But you cannot use a slur as tphuang was subjected to.

Rather unfortunate that anyone should condone such graceless behaviour!

Certainly without expressing it or acting on it, someone carrying the most rabid prejudicial attitudes can't be judged in breach of any racial laws. But I feel I'd like to be able to call her a racist. (whoops, or him)
    Bandwagon,

Why do you require a law?

Are human being born without some sense of decorum that they hone as they grow up in society? Does one require a law to tell him to have good sense. Have parents abdicated their responsibility in teaching manners and grace to their children?

Someone said here that class does not matter. I think that it does. I am sure the Queen would not be so graceless. In fact, she gets respect automatically since she conducts herself wonderfully well, inspite of grave provocations.

Even the Church plays a huge role in grooming a person. In India, many a non Christian because of their schooling under missionaries have learnt what is good and what is bad, The same would have done in any school in India, whatever be the religious denomination of the school!

There will be still some deviates. These are the ones who should never be supported by the society at large and instead should be roundly condemned.

I have experienced racial hatred. Yes, directed at me when I was visiting 'a certain country' in a different continent. These people were not confining themselves to words, they had knives and machettes (sp?). So some people called you names, and you are so thin-skinned that you had to make a post saying the British are the worst offenders? I think you need to grow up.

Enjoying some level of welfare benefit (which I do have to say is better than the welfare offered in Canada and USA) does not mean I should face abuse daily for my skin colour.
But you bravely took all the welfare benefits that were on offer all the same. I am grieved to learn that you are complaining about Canadian and American welfare. They clearly do not meet your high levels of expectation. This must be a matter of some concern to you. Alternatively, you might consider working for a living and stop being a drain on the host countries you so despise.

I agree with you about accepting what experts say, as I stated above. It's just that in some fields being an "expert" does not allow you to write the gospel, and moreover the flaws are often plain to see from the arguments put forward. Almost like an art expert telling you a picture is beautiful, whilst it looks like a turd to you and you wouldnt have it on your wall. (OK that's an illustration rather than a good analogy). That's the difference between hard science and soft science. The latter often becomes laced with personal beliefs and philosophy and grooved thinking.

    Ray,

People are born with a capacity for empathy. As they build experience they at the same time increase the repertoire of reactive feelings they can imagine other people feel and can gauge other peoples’ reactions to their actions towards them. If you have never suffered prejudice at any level you would have little idea of the effect of racism, -not without being taught. “Upbringing” plays a large part in the formation of what you call “decorum”, -our behaviour, as well as attitudes and values.

I agree that the Church and school can play an important part in upbringing. In fact it is more important than the family in shaping the attitudes, values and behaviour that the child takes into adulthood. But it works indirectly –by shaping the reigning attitudes, values and behaviour of the various individual peer groups within a class.

About laws: So a prerequisite for "normal" socialisation is empathy. However the degree of empathy people are capable of varies with personality type. Hence some people are more resistant to grooming, i.e. the teaching of “good behaviour”, than others, as they lack the drive that empathy gives, (-your "deviates", the worst of those are people with antisocial personality disorders and psychopathy). Hence laws remain important in curbing anti-social and immoral behaviour towards others.

Yes, her "Ssh" is made in India! actually!

Should she come to India, if the Indian media does not turn it into a circus, none will notice that she has come and gone!

    A question.............. to tphuang

[B]I cannot add to Glyn's fair, honest and constructive post's in response to yours's....however I would like to ask you a question tphuang.........

Obviously you have lived in the UK, and it would appear Canada and the USA, if you are so demoralised with the ability of said 3 countries to keep you in the high level of life that you (feel) you deserve, why have you not returned to your homeland, which I believe is China?
