P.S. The BNP would not support Jade. The BNP have links to the Indian community such as Sikhs, Hindus.

Is the foto of Jade ,one where she was caught trying to insert some wisdom teeth

she is also worth £8.000.000.000 , wheres the justice ?

I don't normally post personal comments about these creatures but she is ugly, mouthy, charmless, talentless and thick, and is an acute embarrassment to many. The same comments can equally be applied to the show itself, which is a sad commentary on our times.

There obviosuly is an undercurrent of racism, otherwise this would not have been such a big issue.

Anita Desai, this year's Man Booker prize winner recollected yesterday of how she was racially abused when she was in Britain.

So the claims that this is indeed an abberration seems to be shallow at its best!

I disagree. More recently she has shown herself to be capable of surprising insight and some humility, (although she manages the latter publicly by disowning herself). She is a typical example of the type of brash extrovert personality who cannot but express all her emotions constantly and has resistance to accomodating others. We all come across them. If you're going to have a goldfish bowl with a slice of humanity you'd have her in it.

I find the show fascinating (in small concentrated amounts) -as opposed to the horrible more glamourous varieties (Love Island ). Yes it is a commentary on our times that we entertain ourselves in this way. But sad? Why? Do you think it is better to be entertained by unrealistic fiction, -stuff my wife calls "rubbish from someones mind".

What is a sad reflection is that Jades looks are above average for the British public, depsite the fact that with even a small grimace she is more than halfway towards resembling Jabba the Hun. I recently saw a graduation video from my nephew's class, who lives in Florida. His female classmates are stunning, one after the other. I only had two lookers out of 30 girls in my year at school in Lincolnshire, (who were both over-subscribed). There were none in my year of 100 at college ( it was horrible). I eventually met a colleague who was dropdead gorgeous and married her on the spot.

Yep a sad commentary on the British. ( is this racism? But it's white on white. That's OK isn't it??).

Of course looks aren't everything. But Shilpa has it all.

Racism abounds worldwide, but less in the UK than other places, and none in BB, despite the paranoid way it has been interpreted.

BW, racism is often in the eye of the beholder. What you may consider to be class conflict or just offensive but not racist, may actually represent racism to the person who is at the receiving end. For instance, I & a few non Asian friends were walking along, when a couple of blokes decided to jape around and do mock kung fu and make chinese sounding noises. One amongst them being actually of mixed Chinese parentage. But his colleague, who was a Chinese was deeply offended, and called it borderline racist behaviour. The problem is that the stereotypes which are often used, are perceived as racist by those whom they stereotype.

Coming to BB, it was undoubtedly racist, in the sense that they used racist comments in order to get back at Shilpa. Eg:

    DANIELLE LLOYD MODEL
After Shetty makes roast chicken for the group, O'Meara says: "I don't trust that chicken. I want to eat it but I'm scared... May be they cook chicken like that in India. That's why they are so thin." Lloyd agrees, "You don't know where those hands have been."

When Shetty has bleach on her face, Lloyd says, "Do you get a stubble?" To this O'Meara replies, "Like a man." And Lloyd says to Goody, "She wants to be white," and adds, "I want to bite someone's head off. She's an annoying f***ing *****."
So it could be, as PubFather analyzed excellently, class/cultural conflict, but the comments are definitely racist. Or appear to be so.

Unrealistic fiction is of no interest to me. I look at the TV Times when it arrives, and mark in those programs that might be of interest for the week. These are likely to be about gardening or wildlife. I do watch the news, but the TV set is off for much longer than its on.

Karthik Sir, thats a 2002 poll. Yesterday 82% voted to eject Goody out because of her insensitive comments. I don't think one must go by what people think of themselves. Intelligent people will be far more self cynical than those who are'nt. Same applies to societies. Ask any Pakistani if they think they live in a liberal, free society. My bet will be 99% think so.

In any case, this was not a study on the prevelance of racial discrimination, nor does it draw a comparison to any standard from other societies. It is a poll on people's opinion which runs the risk of being a poor reflection. Anyone who is rejected for a job or promotion will look for a reason other than their own failings or bad luck and conclude racial (or sexual) discrimination.

Racial discrimination may go on to a degree, but along with plenty of other forms of discrimination, e.g. disabilities, ginger hair, accent, sexual orientation, religiousness (sic) etc. And that's because we live in a society of non-clones and are most comfortable with people who are the most like ourselves.

If we have any beef with anyone for any reason we pick on and exaggerate the differences between us, -as a consequence, not as the cause of the beef. That's no kind of ism.

Ray, I assume that this is responding to my quote about "white trailer trash"? If so, I am guilty of making a mistake, as a re-reading of the item in my Regimental forum reveals that the word 'trailer' was not included. I am given to understand that the person making the statement was not white.
You didn't mention that the person was not a white. Notwithstanding white on white, it is not acceptable. But then I am not too conversant with your Army's ways. Such a thing would not have made it to my Regimental Forum.

If he had been in my unit, it would have been 28 days in the QG without any questions asked! And if he was prone to this habit, it would mean a Summary Court Martial. Home he would go!

It is bad enough in society in general. Just not tolerated in the Army, at least not in the Indian Army.

If you agree that they were using "racist comments" purely "to get back at Shilpa", then this is no worse than using other differences e.g. the size of her nose (if she had a less exquisite nose). I wouldn't call that "racism". Otherwise all criticism is an unacceptable ism.

The girls display a good deal of ignorance in their attacks. But O'Meara maybe right in thinking undercooked chicken could give her the sh!ts. Most British chicken is colonised with Campylobacter. O'Meara may well wonder whehter in other societies people have a preference for tender slightly undercooked meat (I do)

However Lloyds comment "She wants to be white" has objectional racial derogatory overtones

There are too many mindless programmes for mindless people.

But then too many see these programmes, not that I am calling them mindless.

The problem is that most of us have no hobbies, maybe the office makes us totally tired. Hence, the idle mind turns a devils workshop and the TV is the easiest way to keep occupied with no effort. Then , the sort of Stockholm Syndrome takes over. We start liking the junk purveyed!

Whatever is the case in this issue, it is dying down and thank Heavens for that!

It has caused too much of bad blood.

I heard the politicians on both sides of the issue on TV and I am so glad that they are handling the issue in a statesmanlike manner.

It would be a sad day if this come between the two countries, which given the ties, shall fortunately never come.

My point was that sometimes people start a conflict because of class/cultural clash, but then use racist attacks to hurt the opposite person, which brings us to the question- which came first, the chicken or the egg? For instance, if a white shilpa had PO'ed the Goody gang off, she would have been bullied too, but there would have been less of the "go back to your shack" kind of commentary. The latter indicates that there is prejudice extent.

he girls display a good deal of ignorance in their attacks. But O'Meara maybe right in thinking undercooked chicken could give her the sh!ts. Most British chicken is colonised with Campylobacter. I think you are ascribing reasoned intelligence to basically petty behaviour; they didnt rationally think the issue through as you are, they just wanted to hurt the indian girl some by passing comments on her hygiene and indian cooking in general. Just the usual bullying, but with a bit of focused commentary.

However Lloyds comment "She wants to be white" has objectional racial derogatory overtones
    [/QUOTE]

Definitely, so does the bit about hands and the other comment by Goodys mum of Shilpa living in a shack and going back there & the like.

IOW, theres a fair bit of prejudice and class/cultural issues at work, not just the latter.
