Its the old story, tried and true by the Liberals. Short term gain for long term pain.

Here we go again, another swing around the merry-go-round, were we land no-body-knows...

Say whatever you want, Ignatieff is following the footprints of a many Liberal before him, in Opening that old nasty can of worms, to gain support in Quebec.

CTV article

"Not even supporters of Liberal leadership frontrunner Michael Ignatieff agree what his proposal to recognize Quebec as a nation would mean."

(Paul)Martin urged Liberals to focus on issues that are common priorities for Quebecers and other Canadians, like health care, rather than get caught up in a potentially divisive debate over "nomenclature.''

So the front runner for the leadership of the Federal Liberal Party, has a proposal to recognize Quebec as a nation.

Good grief...

The very word "nation" can be interpreted in may ways, in some ways you can interpretate it as a group of people, such as the First Nations (Canadian aboriginals), however to others, nation could mean a soverign state.
And you all know how the Seperatists would interpretate this..

If this does happen, and the Constitution is re-written to have Quebec recognized as a nation, then you have just paved the road for the dystruction of Canada as we all know it today. What will stop say Newfoundland from declaring itself a nation? or Ontario? or what about Nunavut? Being declared a "nation within a nation" means a special status, and with that, you can make your own policies without approval from the Federal government. If this happens, Canada would become the CU or Canadian Union, similar to the EU.

Right now, the Seperatist movement is essentially dead, or at least dormant in Quebec...Do not stir the dragon, please, whatever you do Ignatieff. The last thing this country wants right now is another Constitutional debate.

But then again, Liberals have a history of saying one thing, then doing another..So I cant see this new proposal holding any water.
