    Woman stripped, beaten in Jharkhand

    Woman stripped, beaten
    (IANS)

    24 June 2006

RANCHI — A woman Sukari Nayak of Chora village, 30km from Jharkhand capital Ranchi, was stripped by villagers, paraded through the village and then tied to a tree.

She was beaten mercilessly by the villagers. Police rescued her late on Thursday evening.

The villagers accused Sukari of killing a 12-year-boy Balchand Bhagat. They said Sukari had taken some villagers to Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh to work in a brick kiln factory. Balchand had accompanied her. Sukari returned to the village and told Balchand's parents that he had gone missing from Mugalsarai station.

On Thursday, the villagers dragged her from her house and stripped her. She was beaten up by Balchand's parents.
