It would be appropriate for me to indicate that it is misconception that those Indians who immigrate to the USA are all those whiz kids. Undergraduates are a dime to a dozen in India. I cannot comment about other countries, but in India, to be educated is a sign of upward mobility and social recognition! That is why Indians like to excel in their pursuit of educational qualifications!
The article states:
Quite a few Indians who migrate are taxi drivers (mostly in UK), restaurant hands, rundown motel owners (known as "Potels" since they are Gujarati owned and Patel is a common Gujarati surname), farm owners mostly in California etc. And the richest Indian, as per the BBC programme I saw yesterday, is someone called Ahuja who owns some restaurants! And if Ahuja is the educated whiz kid type, then that would be something! Most finished their undergraduate education in India and came here to get master’s degrees in American universities.
In so far as the contention you raised in the other post of Christo grousing being attributed to losing his job to an Asian, India is flooded with Bangladeshis. They are cheap labour as are the Mexican in the US. Yet, there is no grouse on this issue. The grouse is mainly out of fear that they are rapidly changing the demographic equation as also they are susceptible as recruit for the radical Islam i.e. terrorists! The Nepalese coming to India for work (it is an open border) and they are treated at par with Indian citizens and most settle down in India! There is no animosity with the Nepalese settling down, more so since they have given their blood for India as they constitute a sizable segment of the Indian Army!
