Zakat council okays grant for madrassa students

LAHORE: The Punjab Zakat Council (PZC) has approved a budget for District Zakat Committes (DZC) for scholarships to be given to deserving students of maddrassas and schools and a grant for a small rehabilitation package.

According to a handout, PZC Chairman Justice (r) Haji Muhammad Akram Baitoo, in a PZC meeting on Friday, approved a grant of Rs 25.63 million for students of madrassas of 11 districts, Rs 38.63 million for school students of 13 districts and Rs 8.56 million for a small rehabilitation package.

The PZC also elected Munir Ahmed Malik as chairman of the Nankana Sahib DZC and Muhammad Asif and Ahmad Yar as DZC members of Jehlum and Toba Tek Singh respectively.

According to the handout, the PZC approved Rs 1.47 million for 1,089 maddrassa students from Lahore, Rs 4.82 million for five maddrassas in Okara, Rs 2.61 million for 20 maddrassas in Lodhran, Rs 2.35 million for seven maddrassas in Bhakkar, Rs 1.09 million for four madrassas in Kasur, Rs 3.40 million for three maddrassas in Sialkot, Rs 0.40 million for a maddrassa in Rawalpindi, Rs 0.35 million for two maddrassas in Bahawalpur and Rs 3.92 million for four maddrassas in Gujranwala. Similarly Rs 0.45 million for 257 school students of Gujranwala, Rs 36,000 for 40 students of Mandi Bahauddin, Rs 0.59 million for 610 students of Attock, Rs 10.93 million for 8,180 students of Sargodha, Rs 1.92 million for 1,910 students of Pakpattan, Rs 2.24 million for 2,002 students of Kasur, Rs 4.90 million for 5,303 students of Sialkot, Rs 3.90 million for 867 students of Okara, Rs 2.32 million for 1,329 students of Jhang, Rs 6.51 million for 6,350 students of Vehari, Rs 1.32 million for 244 students of Sahiwal and Rs 2.01 million for 1,327 students of Bahawalpur were approved. Meanwhile, Rs 2.62 million, Rs 0.53 million, Rs 2.25 million and Rs 3.15 million were approved under small rehabilitation packages for Lahore, Pakpattan, Faisalabad and Jhang respectively.
